After finishing my VIIc build I decided that I need another cut-away challenge. So I'm going for a 1:35 XXIII boat based on the excellent Bronco kit. Minor problem....the model has no interior. So I'll make it myself. Started designing everything within the CAD, based on books, plans, and photos. Firts impression....drivetrain with stuffing box, thrust bearing, belt drive-coupled creeper motor, main clutch, e-motor, Diesel clutch and the MWM RS32S Diesel. Tedious, but the first fitting in the virtual pressure hull only required minor corrections. Good sign...

I'm so looking forward to this project, Doctor. Always good stuff from your work-bench.

Added the blower for the room ventilation. Here starts the guesswork because plans and descriptions are not clear about position and size. Also added the first sketch of the air induction and the air exhaust masts. Again, plans are not coherent...again, some room for guessing.Comment

Awesome.....THX. That's U-Hai (S-170), an overhauled Nazi sub that was used as training boat for the post war German Navy....
The Diesel air-intake had been re-dedigned. So this might not be the actual XXIII configuration. But it gives good hints!Last edited by DrSchmidt; 01-07-2020, 03:57 AM.Comment

If you're planning on printing this, it'll probably pay you to buy your own printer with the price of them these days, versus bureau costs.Comment
