The 3" WTC that I use came with Speed 400 motors made for 7.2 volts. So after some experimentation I changed them to the 12 volt long can version of the motor. However the motors do get hot. I thought about trying to de-pitch the impellors but instead tried using heat sinks. The motor mount is some kind of plastic that works real well unless your motors get hot so I had one made out of aluminum.

That helps draw heat away from the motors. In addition to that I purchased some copper pipe close to the size of the motors and after cutting it length ways slid it onto the motors. Works pretty good. This will do in the interum as I mull over in my mind the choices I have for repowering it. The full build on this sub with all the details can be found on the Subcommittee website under builders threads. A trademark of my builds is the ballast tank vent tube. This is a brass round tube that I install right above the ballast tank vent to direct the expelled air or gases out of the ballast tank to help to keep from adding to the problem of air building up under the superstructure and hindering a dive. Its important to have the pipe right down against the ballast vent in order to properly contain it.

Mark,
That's the smoothest running SEAVIEW I've ever seen; like it was a Disneyland ride, it's like it's riding well concealed rails. I hate you!
I would kill to operate in a body of water like what you've found. You've engaged portions of the bilge-keel after fins as extension to the propulsion tube stern planes, haven't you?
More pictures!

A few more. The Entire 9 page build can be seen on the Subcomittee under builders threads intitled Rick Teskey Seaview.Last edited by greenman407; 11-08-2011, 10:35 AM.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

There is another good video but this site apparently does not support Photobucket so if you go to Photobucket home page in upper right hand corner click on the arrow next to search and highlight videos and then type in greenman407 and hit search. Then scroll down to the video marked The Mighty Seaview and click on it. I know its a lot of trouble but I cant get it to link.:biggrin:IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

To increase thrust and to reduce the load on the motors
Dave suggested that We take the 4 bladed impeller and reduce it to 2 blades.
I had my doubts but after a bet was made I cut them down to 2 blades to see who was right.
Davids advice proved correct, almost a 50% increase in thrust was realized.Last edited by greenman407; 11-08-2011, 10:36 AM.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

I wished that I had my camera on that day. A local alligator was shadowing the Seaview wherever it went, looking, probing for any sign of weakness. I have been model boating before with 12 foot alligators in sight but the Seaview doesnt appear to be a good meal. I mentioned before that the 12 volt speed 400 long can motors are no longer available from Graupner but they still offer the 7.2 volt 400s. If my long cans burn out I can revert to the 7.2 volt 400s and convert to a 2 cell lipo to power it.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Great work!! I always liked the 8 window version. I am in the process of building a Debour hulls Seaview. If it comes out as good as yours I will be very happy.Comment
