Just started my 3D printing adventure. Working on a Nautilus. 66" files reduced 50%. Coming along pretty good. This will be a static display. The steering house and rear section will be held on with magnets to allow access to the lights.

Your printing work looks great! Very nice detail. Good luck on your build. :-))

I am also looking to start a different Disney submarine build (not the Nautilus), probably going the 3D printer route as well. But I have to ask did you just find/purchase a 3D model to use, or did you create it yourself?

This is likely it. The creator is a very skilled modeler.

.. FYI...
The files I used are on CGTrader. They are the 66"-1/36 size. They list for 59.99 but have been on sale for as low as 17.99. I have reduced the size 50%. (33") the part fit is really good.
The files have 2 types of Sub, one with rivets and one without, and 2 build styles, full section parts or sectioned parts. There is a PDF file that shows pictures of the parts in each .ZIP file. The file names are in German. So the pdf helps sort out the parts. Hope this helps.👍 1Comment

A few more parts added. Motor installed and lights. I used leds that imitate ambient (incandescent) lighting. I think they are more period correct. BTW......If you are going to use " Rustolium Dark Steel as your base color, you might want to buy it now. It is apparently discontinued. very hard to find.. I found some at Target online..Last edited by Mrstude; 09-12-2022, 11:10 AM.Comment

Update: printing small items is quite a challenge. The hatch doors are difficult. The hand wheels are also difficult. If you print them horizontal, they will require supports. Unfortunately, the underside looks horrible, where the supports are. Going to try vertical print to see if things improve.👍 1Comment

Nope.. just too big to worry about a few digital copies of 3D files. It would cost more for one of their lawyers to glance at a screen than they'd get out of a lawsuit or effort to shut anyone down.👍 1Comment
