Glue Recommended for 4D Printed Material

I was wondering, since 3D model hulls are becoming popular, what is a Good Recommend glue to use to join various pieces of hull etc. together?

I was thinking about CA- fast, med. Plastruct Solvent. What is suggested by users?

    Thanks for sharing here.

      Hi George,

I use Starbond Medium CA on my PLA printed submarines.

          Hi Rob

Thanks for your reply. I never heard of "Starbond Medium CA" , is that a specific brand name? Where is it sold? Not sure if it is available in Canada. What do you think of Gorilla Glue CS thin or Gel?

Ha Ha Should have been 3D NOT 4D unless you breath too much CA while using it. Then NOT sure which dimension your in.

              George,

              I got mine from Amazon.

Another great PLA adhesive is called DAP RAPIDFUSE all purpose adhesive. This works great and it is less expensive than Starbond!

Amazon.com: DAP 7079800155 00155 0.85 oz Rapid Fuse Fast Curing All Purpose Adhesive, 1 Pack, Clear : Industrial & Scientific

Yes he does BUT due to where he is located, the shipping to Canada is ridiculous, not his fault, Postal rates.

Goto look for something similar locally available.

Hey George... I'm sure you'll get other answers for this but my suggestion would be since there are so many 3D print materials out there do what I did. Take some sprue and experiment try CA try epoxy try abs airplane glue and anything else you might consider using. I tested on some resin print material that Eddie Tordahl did for me and found happily that CA and epoxy worked to where the print material broke and not the glue joint when stressed. I use gorilla brand CA both gel and thin.. or JB 5 minute epoxy both bought at Big box home stores. Again the key is to test it... I like to buy almost everything I use where I can get it again at the drop of a hat without having to search the internet and wait days.

I’m located in Canada as well and I use the Gorilla superglue on my 3D printed parts, along with Bob Smith Industries CA (available at most hobby shops) both work fine, but I find that you often need to roughen up the surface of the 3D printed parts to be joined in order to get a great bond.

I use Loctite 401 for gluing printed pieces of all kinds, FDM, SLA, DLP, even pieces made with technologies with a porous finish (SLS and MJF). Thanks to its low viscosity, this glue is perfectly introduced by the layers of the printed pieces, even if they are not very porous, resulting in a perfect union and without altering the final geometry of the joint (separation <0.1 mm). In addition, the LOCTITE 401 is ideal for bonding casting resins, since it does not generate ashes.
