    Real life application of SAS

Can you use the SAS principle in a real life situation?
That is using air inside the hull to blow the ballast tank.
Wouldn't it result in negative pressure in the boat?
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

The SAS is based on 'real life' low pressure blow of the main ballast tanks. However, in real life, the pump is not started till the main induction valve is opened. And that happened the moment the sail broached the surface. Boats get ear-popping all the time on the snorkel.

So you can't use the air inside to blow ballast with the induction close. Even if the volume of air inside is larger than the BT?

You can (on the Trutta we did on occasion), but not recommended.

Helps keep the wax build-up down!! It was always fun doing the diesel engine vacuum shutdown switch tests for maintenance and ORSE!! ;)

Ouch! Yet another reason to hate the Squadron rat-patrol.
