Slightly off topic. Where do you get your shafts and bearings from?

Bravo Zulu, Dave. Outstanding craftsmanship and design, as always. The torpedo system has sparked my imagination of a larger scale and actual working fish. By actual I mean some internal propulsion dc mini motor and perhaps a toutch of pyro for effect. I could stalk the Kayak tours, in the mangrove canals like they were slow moving convoys. A small squib charge would poke a hole in the boat but not any colateral damage to the occupants, other than a big flash and boom and a lot of water spray. Thank the state for proposing a ban on the tours in the sanctuary, I hope it goes thru. The kayaks and jet ski people are tearing up the place. I was about to resort to the Conch Republic Kriegsmarine. Polkinschlag, another way. Poke em in the schlag locker would be more like it.

Not at all off-topic. Glad to share sources:

Then you would want to contact Doctor Pat Drake (Doctor Boom) from the land down-under -- he's been doing exploding model ordance for decades. And at last count he still has all his digits -- The mark of know-how in our world.

Providing you're happy to work in metric rather than imperial, I recommend Norbert for bearings and shafting down to 3mm diameter (smaller than that and you'll have to scout around). Mcmaster is fine for folk in the U.S, but they won't ship international, so you're stuffed unless someone stateside is willing to be a postie for you.

Thanks, Andy. Did not know Mcmaster-Carr would not ship outside the States.

You say Norbert Bruggen; Isn't he? And, talking about the building of the model, may be I've missed something but, What about those square opennings in the lower part of the hull?

I'm not sure what I'll need yet. I'd like to see if the Gato guts will fit the tube and possibly get just the tube and bulkheads. I'll wait until Dave can confirm its feasable. I thimk it would be nice if an option is available to save a few bucks for guys that have partial equipment on hand already.

Resin parts are cast, and the first set employed aboard the first Revell of Germany 1/72 Type-9 kit Mike and I received from Germany. Not too surprisingly, everything fit perfectly. Note that only magnets are used to index and hold the forward and after torpedo nests in place.

                                G'morning, M!

                                Great stuff, as usual!

A couple of questions, if I may-

                                1. What type of RTV do you use for prop casting? Is it a special type of high-temp silicone? Also, I assume you pour white metal into the molds to cast the props?

                                2. You utilize renshape blocks to hold the magnets which secure the decks Is renshape impervious to water retention?
Have done quite a bit of patternmaking using renshape, but never in a wet environment.

Your assistance, as always, is much appreciated!

                                Crazy-1, out!!!
