    Scavenger Steampunk Submarine Build

I purchased the files for this Submarine from (Bob) Nautilus Drydocks and I can tell you they are fantastic STL files...
This is going to be a very different kind of build! My plan is to 3D Print this boat using my Bambu X1-Carbon printer with the AMS system.

I did purchase a second AMS unit in order to give me 8 different colors (PLA) to use on this Scavenger build. My hope is that I can build the complete submarine with no applied painting other than colored PLA.
This will be a very time consuming project, but with proper prior planning, I think it will be possible.

The above photos are showing an experimental project using only colored PLA filament to fabricate this human torso. I am going to apply the knowledge and materials used on this experimental project and apply them to the Scavenger Submarine build.

This is going to be a total build using my AMS systems for the fabrication of not only hull structure but the interior full operational sub driving system. For the ballast system I will be following along with a YouTube that Bob Martin put up on his great build of this Submarine. SPECIAL NOTE: A lot of credit needs to go to Logan (Bob's son) for the fantastic finishing work on this submarine.

It is going to be sometime before I start posting photos because of the complexity of this build. Ounce I have the color choices established I will start the build.

Be sure to have a chute and waste basket for all the little filament "turds". I was surprised how much I had for a 2 color print!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

Here's a mask I printed for a friend's kid. I would say it was almost 30-hours of printing, with a mess behind my printer. it's printed with glow in the dark PLA. Kiddo loved it! Click image for larger version

They do have metallic PLA filaments that you could play with, Rob. The number of unique and frankly gorgeous plastics we now have to work with is pretty astounding:

How about removing the domes from the print process and print the glass domes in clear and dome bars in color. Then glue or snap the domes onto the hull.

Good idea Scott, but my talents as a CAD design person do not qualify me to make that attempt just now and on this project. I am going to complete the project as just a model and may be pursue building a possible diving system!?

I found the color combination that I like. Also I am building this boat at 85% at 100% infill. One of the issues that I am confronted with right now is space in my hobby room. But I do have one more shelf that at 85% it will fit nicely. I do not think that this size will hamper a running syste!? We will see!

This for sure the final base color, and using silk silver with the transparent blue in the port hole. I will be using this base color with the silver and the blue along with some bronze highlights

I realize this project does not fit up there with some I have done and its kind of a crazy project. Bare with me a little longer and it will be put to rest...

I have come to the concussion that reducing the files on this project to 85% from 100% is not working out.

Even going in and making adjustments, it just is not working out. Also I have found that SILK PLA's do not have the same strength as regular PLA.

I made some changes (not using the silver Silk PLA) on this particular piece and see if staying with the base color will work better. If it does not work out my only other option is to build this project at 100%. I am finding out that the Bambu AMS feature is great for some projects, but I am finding that submarines are not one of them. The AMS has some good features and it works well. The main issue I have is the printing time factor and material waste (poop).

One last print on this piece and if it does not work out I will close this project out and back to the drawing board.

                        You got that right Romel!

The piece failed again. As I stated I think the Steampunk Submarine STL files are designed to be built at 100%. So! I am going to close out this build for now and I may come back at a later date and try again when I can find the shelf space to build it at 100%...
