How Many of your Subs Have Been Lost?

How many of your RC subs have been lost and never found? Or, how many have been lost and found? I know Sub Ed had lost one and found it.

Several. All recovered over time. And I recovered other people's boats as well.

While I have a gagillion hours of build and test time, compared to a lot of people I have relatively low running time. In 20 plus years of building and running boats, I've never lost one permanently, and I think I've only lost one that I didn't go home with, but eventually recovered a day later.

I lost one for 6 weeks. A diver couldn't find it on that day. Came back with a buddy later, and it was retrieved within 15 minutes! Stunk to high heaven!!!

I lost the Marlin on August 19, 2018. It was found about 15 feet from where I saw it last in four feet of water, about 15 feet from the pond edge. A gentleman who knew I lost it would go to the area and look once in a while. He found it on April 7 2019. Lost for 7 months 19 days. The bottom of the boat sat in the mud and was in nearly perfect shape. The paint above the mud line bubbled. You can see that on the model today. The inside also had algae. There was maybe 1/4 inch of water in the electronics bay. The motor can was rusted. Don't know how the water got in. When I got home there was a 3 inch catfish in the boat. Brought him back to the lake. A few repairs and scrubbing and it's been running fine since.

Man, talk about a scum line. Glad the boat was found, and the catfish saved.

I prefer pools and fountains, enclosed environments, so none lost.

Almost lost Sierra-I. Hopefully, i figuered there was an electronics error when she was mid-lake and brought her back just before the engine fused. Leak at the bow.otherwise would have been a complete loss.50m deep water. Flooded old coal shaft.Never went THERE again.

I believe it was between two piers at a private marina. Come on, Ken, let's hear the stroy again (and now, boy's and girl's, its STORY TIME, with Uncle Ken...).

                            What do you win??

My Horrible Wrath if you ever lose that wonderful little piece of engineering every again... that's what you win, pal!

(don't get a swollen head over this, but I think you're one of the most 'accomplished' r/c submarine dudes in America. Love your work. Top notch, innovative work, my friend).

Oh man!!! No response to a statement like that!!! I'll take it of course. Yea some swelling there coming from you.

Maybe not the most accomplished. I certainly try hard. I'd say I'm a pretty good model builder, especially at the scratch model building I'm working on. Yea kits turn out pretty good too.

Thank you sir!!! I bow to you!!!
