I get these questions from time to time, also with respect to the XXIII files. I haven't decided what to do with them yet. First of all, the CAD models are not ready to print. I draw the CAD models in 1:1 scale with the idea that they will be printed, but before I print them, they are divided into printable parts and sometimes heavily altered to be printable. Sometimes it takes multiple tries and versions, until the model prints correctly. I also add additional details during the build, that are nit part of the original CAD model. So there is no final print version, that could easily be published. And we are talking about a few hundred files and parts.

It's not that I've been lazy, but the progress is slow and rather painfull. The pressure hull is in the outer hull, most of the brass details are applied, the brass deck is on. Hell of work and I didn‘t break too much. This definitely is the hardest part of the build, with all the putty, sanding and trimming. But I'm getting there...

Beautiful... beautiful. The ability to keep the gauge of items such as bed railing, and plumbing runs is what screams SCALE to me. In many plastic kits, the propellers are absolutely useless and wrong. The Vesikko kit does make no exception...resin props that look like a three year old has made them. So I decided to make my own and designed a pair based on the Type VII prop blueprints....I hope they print well.

Many submarine kits come with absolute parodies of propellers. The Vesikko kit is no exception. A resin cast kids‘ version of a prop, unworthy of an otherwise nice scale model. So I took the prop blueprints of the Type VII props I found online and designed real ones. Printed well, look much better than the originals, and will shine on the model. 3,5 hours designing, 2 hours printing. Time well spent…

The control planes are on. Bow dive planes had a good fit. The prop shafts had to be shortened about 2-3 mm, otherwise the props would not fit. Otherwise it looks good. I glued the brass decks into place. It resembles a teak wood deck. The deck was vented via a plethora of holes....those holes have to be drilled out. I guess about 200 holes with 0,4 - 0,5 mm diameter. So far I broke about 15 drill bits....waiting for more. Meanwhile I started designing the Madsen 20mm M/38 deck gun, as it is not included in the kit.

Great job! Do you use a template for the drill pattern or did you mark each spot first?
I order those tiny drill bits in batches of 10...

The hole pattern is in the brass deck, but the glue squeezed through the holes and underneath is the plastic deck...so I have to clear the bass holes and drill through the deck.Comment

Getting close to warping up this Madsen 20 mm AA gun which will be the deck gun of the Vesikko, It ill be interesting how and what I can crank out of my 3D printer with all those tiny detais...

Great detail! Some parts like the handwheel and the shoulder mounts and magazine may be larger, i guess that might make that beauty less brittle. Nevertheless, as fine detail as always!
