Today I made a decision on the future of the ICTINEO ll scaled up model! After two attempts to get the boat settled into the water, I could see it was a lost cause! The boat was just to heavy and the propulsion system was useless to say the least.

I knew this was going to be an off the wall build. The original STL files where for a cut-a-way (1/2 hull) 20.5" model boat. I used his files, blew them up to a full 36" hull size, and with vertical rather than horizontal hull sections. The gentleman that designed the model (his name is Nico cgtrader) did a great job on STL files. At this point we are taking this boat down a different road!

I will show this in the next post! Building this model as it was designed to be built will make a great model, not only as a model, but educational as well.

The WTC will house model circuitry. The operation of the propulsion system and the rudder operation will be done with a hard wire remote system which I have designed and started to build. The simulated WTC and controls will be mounted inside the stern section of the hull. The wiring will be for the controls will come out the bottom of the stern section to tie into the remote system.

Ounce this is complete I will run and post up a video as to how it all looks and works!

Fill it up with foam. Swap out the prop with a functional one.
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

Rob regarding the prop... How about gluing some clear plastic blades between the angled forks- with a little bending of the clear plastic, trial and error and it should be fairly propulsive. ..

What sort of shaft RPM are you running at?

The prop is large diameter but looks like little in the way of pitch, so you'd probably need a reasonable RPM if you want it to escape its own shadow.

This is worth the watch-Monturiol was ahead of his time. I love the way he figured out how to run a steam engine underwater in an enclosed compartment with oxygen being its exhaust.

Thanks to all you guys for your ideas! I do appreciate the input on this build. It has been one of my most frustrating endeavors as far a sub build. At this point I am just going to finish it out as a powered working model. I will keep photos coming as I finish up the rest of the build. Thanks again for the help and advice!

These photos show the modeled WTC with abbreviated 3D printed electronic circuits on top of the tray and the battery located on the bottom. I chose to go this route rather than put expensive electronics in the WTC that are not used in this model. Now that the stern section is totally complete, I can begin the final parts installation on the main hull.

This system is going to be used on the Ictineo ll boat and possibly on others!

Here is a short video that shows how it operates.

Looking Good ,Rob-If I may suggest a revisit of post 81and advance to 0:32 minutes. This is where the sub's name, "Ictineo" is properly pronounced. Unfortunately few (myself included) rarely click on a video link but this one talks about how Monturiol invented the chemical fired steam engine-potassium chlorate, zinc, and Manganese Dioxide-produced enough heat to run a steam engine but gave off oxygen as its exhaust...perfect for a confined submarine!...if he only knew about uranium-238 and uranium -235.

I have installed the port and starboard side port hole systems, and the top hatch systems. The fill in work has already started to take place as well.
                            Little by little!

Today's work on the Ictineo ll involved the installation of the hull accessory.deck equipment, applying filler and general sanding work.

I have the railings for both port and starboard sides of the boat complete and ready for installation. Ounce this is complete and all the final sanding is done the boat will be ready for the finish work!
