I think I have missed something here. Would you be referring to the photos listed of Pandora or Parthian, where pray is there a 4in gun on a afterdeck of what sail? do you possibly mean bridge structure. The word Sail is an a American term I believe, however, the term of Fin was adopted by the Royal Navy when post war T boats were streamlined and converted during the 50s and have indeed followed through to existing boats of today. These photos do show a 4in gun forward of the bridge which may be suggested that you have another look. The question of fate. Pandora designed and built for the China station until 1940, continued with war service in the Med sinking Rigault de Genouilly and transporting supplies and refitted to carry petrol to Malta (Magic Carpet run) and sinking three 9,000 ton merchantmen prior to her being sunk by aircraft. No anti aircraft weapons were fitted to these submarines other than two portable Lewis Machine guns

Parthian another China station boat also served in the Med for war service, being recorded as lost from being mined. Prior to her loss, she was recorded to have sunk the Italian Submarine Diamante, the French Submarine Souffleur, and damaged and sinks three transports of 12,600 tons. Also being employed in supplying Malta (Magic Carpet run). I cannot see how a 4in gun would be considered of any practical use for either boats loss

Notice the Bulge at the grate in front of the gun platform on Upstart. Now notice no such bulge on an aerial view of another U class. Wonder why.

Gents to be sure(snicker..snicker) youve probably seen me do it before. For example, it can be said that the HMCS Victoria is a Canadian sub, and rightly so, but its also true that it is a British U Class as well. So forgive my classifacation of a Canadian sub here with the British ones.

The two prints shown are of Storm and the other with the large fin is Scotsman, but I guess you really knew already.

The second boat is HMS Scotsman. She was refitted in 1959 with this rather futuristic sail. She was an experimental submarine, running entirely on batteries. I think she's greatly under-rated by sub-modelers as the sail makes her a most interesting boat.

Unseen, by calling the first boat the "Storm", you are saying that it is S class. I couldnt tell from the picture. Thanks.

This photograph of Storm is well documented and there is photos blown up to the degree that the crew can be seen waving to the aircraft taking the picture. Storm is seen here returning to the U.K. from the Far Eastern Theatre under the command of Teddy Young whom I met a couple of times before his passing. However, I am unsure of the term of slippery S and slippery T. As far as I am aware there were two terms used, Streamlined and Conversions. Streamlined we're used on the T Class of riveted construction and Conversion for welded constructed boats. The first boat to be converted and stretched being Tiptoe. However, as for the S boats Third Group being of welded construction a few boats underwent tests and as Mr Caswell has pointed out Scotsman being the first.

The picture of a beached "U" Class boat is a German U Boat that was beached during WW1 on the south coast of England at Hastings if my memory serves me right. So, what is it doing in a section for WW2 BRITISH U Class boats?
