      Borei Project 955(North Wind)
This series was designed to replace the Typhoon and Deltas. So far only one is in the water undergoing trials but three others have been laid down. Of course, they are smaller than the Typhoon(too Big). They are 560 ft. long and 43 ft. beam.Top sustained submerged speed is listed at 25 knots. It will be the first Russian use of the Pump jet propullser type empellor. They are armed with 16 R-39 Bulava Ballistic missiles as well as numerous types of cruise missiles and mines and Torpedos. Mid summer 2011 has a scheduled test of all weapons systems. The numerous delays in getting them into service is due to , as they term it, Budgetary and technical restraints. In the first quarter of 2010 a fourth unit was laid down and will be referred to as Borei II project 955U. It will carry 20 missiles instead of the traditional 16.

                Bravo project 690 Kefal(mullet)
These four vessels were built for ASW training. They were strengthened in the outer hull to be able to take the impact of practice torpedoes. They could also deploy operationally if needed. However note their armament. One 533mm torpedo tube and one 400mm tube , both forward. They were diesel propelled with one shaft. Maximum submerged speed was 18 knots. One boat was assigned to each of the four naval divisions, Pacific, North, Baltic, and Black seas. They were all stricken in the 1990s. The characteristic hump in the rear was the target area. In the second picture it looks like the paint is pealing and not the results of torpedo strikes.

                  India Project 940 (lenok)
It was designed to locate and rescue crewmen from downed submarines. It did this with the use of two DSRV vehicles that were made to be operated both at the same time. They could carry 24 passengers and three crewmen each. Generally speaking they were made to be used at sites where the damaged submarine was between 500 and 1000 meters. The maximum diving depth of the India herself was 300 meters. They came complete with medical staff and decompression equipment onboard. To help them in there mission the subs had tank like treads on the bottom of there hulls to help them move around on the bottom. They were also observed taking part in "Spetsnaz" special operations. They were both s****ped in 1995. Too bad they wernt around and operational when the Kursk went down.

Notice the bow on this one. Some kind of Mod. Also notice that the DSRV compartments have been plated over for the voyage across the Pacific. The DSRVs must have been transported by ship as there is no room under that cover for the DSRVs.

DSRV looks too small to fit 27 men inside.

Aren't these the Priz class DSRVs?
I remember seeing a documentary about how one got entangled in some fishing nets and to be rescued by a British team?

Looks like soviet submarine designers had used "TYPE XXI" stern shapes for a long time. Perhaps because its performance was good.

Not much known about this one. Its diesel electric. Its been speculated that its for research activities. It has two hyperbaric chambers so that divers could transit from there to the sea. It was 86 meters long and 2000 tons surface displacement. Building work was completed in 1979 and was used by the Black Sea fleet. Decommisioning came in 1994.Click image for larger version
