    Subfest 2024 - redux!

Yes, SUBFEST is re-scheduled and looking more epic than ever!

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 30th through May 4th, 2025.

Most of you know that due to Hurricane Helene, I made the difficult choice to cancel SUBFEST last week. In hindsight, it was absolutely the correct decision, as I heard from the venue owner that while the Red Clay Resort weathered things well, the surrounding area was decimated.

Having talked with her, and after consulting a number of registered attendees, I have officially moved the dates for SUBFEST 2024 to April 30th to May 4th, 2025. This new event is now branded SUBFEST 2024 - REDUX!

Moving the event to May has many benefits:
    • We still get to have our 2024 SUBFEST
    • There is little to no chance of inclement weather cancelling the event
    • There are no conflicts with other submarine events such as Groton or Carmel
    • It is staged at the beginning of the running season, which will allow skippers to get their boats out of hibernation and trimmed for the 2025 running season in the perfect environment with lots of help and input available.
Here is a quick FAQ to get everyone on the same page:
    1. All existing registration fees will automatically transfer to the new event
    2. Registration for the event will remain open to any newcomers right up to April 30th and registration is available on site.
    3. As before, t-shirts will be distributed at the event. I'm working with our supplier to modify them with the new dates and branding. If you ordered a t-shirt separate from event registration, those will ship after the event, just as they would have in September.
    4. Interested in making a suggestion for SUBFEST 2024-REDUX? I have just added a form you can fill out on the SUBFEST page. Any ideas or suggestions on what we can do or supply there are gratefully appreciated.
    5. The owner is working on finishing a full RV campground just down the street from the event that will have hookups. If you're interested in bringing a trailer, this should be available by the event date. There is also RV parking on site with electrical but no sewer.

I'm really looking forward to the event in May. Be sure to hit me up with any questions.

An exciting option available to SUBFEST skippers this year is personal transport of your RC submarines to and from the event. This is done thanks to the offering of Ron Lawrence, who will be traveling from San Diego, California, to the event in Cohutta, Georgia and back again.

If you can meet him anywhere along his journey, space can be made to transport your RC submarine safely there and back, freeing you up to leverage commercial air transportation to and from the event without having to worry about bringing your boat on the plane or risking damage or loss by shipping it.

Attendees wishing to leverage this service are responsible for properly crating their boats and arranging a meeting time at any of the stops outlined in the itinerary. Transportation to and from the event will be provided for a fee.

All of the info and pricing are on the SUBFEST Sub Transport Page of my site!

Looks like I may have a customer's huge Disney Nautilus there, a big 30th scale German 212, my James Bond Lotus, and, if the stars shine on me, my 48th Alfa. Could also be a customer 48th Disney Nautilus.

It looks like I can attend Thursday and Friday. I see the agenda and was wondering how many people get there that early. Assuming there is some free run time and setup going on…

Jake and I will arrive Wednesday. If possible, we'll grab our tables, set up, and maybe even get some trim dives in before show-time. Looking forward to hooking up with you again, you model-maker, you.

That would be great. I will need to do some test work out there. My lake is at
“Hersheys chocolate milk “ opacity right now and have no idea how the 2 boats actually drive.
                    Trim is good…

I plan on staying on site Friday night and will have my ham radio setup with me. 20 meters is usually open to Europe if anyone is interested in talking to someone across the pond. So I’ll kill two birds with one stone. Provide security for your boats, and have some fun of my own too.
Of the 40,000 men who served on German submarines, 30,000 never returned.”

The pictures I took at Subfest. It was so good to see familiar faces and reconnect. By far the biggest turn out yet even in spite of some rain.

                              Hi Steve,

Thank you for posting up your photos of Subfest 2024 Redux 2025! I was really impressed with the "SEEHUND" boat. I have not been building submarines lately, but after going to Bob's Facebook and seeing all the photos of the event I am going to start in again if I can find the room in my small work area to keep another submarine. Looks like all of you really had a great time.
