Just a quick note, found some Vaseline and have a piece of gasket encased in it. I will check on these parts in 2 weeks. I would think that is enough time to see if there are any adverse reactions.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but did want to drop a quick note that I'll be in the San Diego area next week with a fully checked and ready to run Neptune. It's going to be featured in a collaboration with another YouTuber and I'd love to sell it to someone in that area who can pick it up so I don't have to ship it back home.

Ah, you took the post for needing a Neptune. Bob, you can jump in anytime. Look forward to seeing what your experience is like. I am having a hole drilled into my skull and not sure I could help out because of recovery time. It is time to see what effect water, silicone, and Vaseline has on TPU.
I compared to the original each of the pieces. It is hard to measure TPU because it gives, so I did the best I could. Is there room for error sure, but you do the test to verify.
Water - Started test on 06/19 and finished today (07/12) so about 3 weeks.
I saw 0 change - I measured the original piece to this one and not a bit of swelling. Flex was the same and surface feel was the same too. Original was 2.05 mm and this measured the same.
O.K. let’s move to silicon.
Silicon - Started test on 06/19 and finished today (07/12). Also about 3 weeks.
After wiping all the silicon off it appears it is the same as the original, if any swelling occurred it was .01 mm (2.06 mm). That is in the margin of error I think. The physical properties seemed to remain, the flex, squishiness, and surface feel. Impressed.
Vaseline - Started test on 06/21 and finished today (07/12). A little short of 3 weeks.
Wiped off the vaseline and measured. This did show a slight expansion or swelling, about .03 mm (2.08 mm). Still in the overall scheme of things minimal. No change in physical properties from the non-scientific lab tests.
With that, I feel safe using silicon or vaseline for lubing the seal/gasket. I do need to work on printing the piece so that there is better merging of the layers. The first one was printed with 3 walls which I could flex the lip enough to get separation of the layers. I printed it with one wall and it came out better. There are so many variables in 3D printing and I certainly have not played enough especially TPU.
