    One Man Comic Submarine

I got some comicbooks from the past, in a few of those there is a one man submarine present, the caracter which controls the submarine is called Spirou, made some calculations to see if i can build that submarine.

Those are the comicbooks i have.

Made this drawing to the correct size, divided the rearpart to get me some measurements to make that end with styrodure.

Took the drillpress to get me the rough shape of the rear-end.

Builded up the plug from sewer-pipe and a dome bought at the local hobbyshop

To get the exact shape of the end piece a made a screed

This will give me the shape i need, a bit of extra plaster will give me some slack for sanding it to the final shape

For now i'm busy with building up the layers of plaster, between the drying time i got me some slack to made some extra parts, to be continued.

    Manfred.

At least you're able to build it. As a kid, my comic book boats looked like this. I had to enlist to play in it though.

Madness indeed David, why?, i can't sit still, it seemed to me a good fingerpractice to see if i can pull this off.
Like my V80 it will be a beachrunner, while SWMBO is enjoying the sun, i can play with my boats.

It took some time and gaining experience to take the jump, this time i feel i'm ready to build it.

Unusual it is, thinking waterjet propulsion, dynamic diving, no levelkeeper, back to the roots.
Lenght will be about 2 feet, scale i don't know, but the relation between the lenght and diameter seems good, i'll see what the future will bring.

I've let the lathe done some spinning, made those front dive planes and started sanding the back-end.

In the comic this is used for the propulsion of the boat, made this from a plastick that will float in the water.

Had to do this twice, making the propulsion real this way will become too complicated, so i will go another route

It should come at this position at the back-end.

Made two divingplanes from that copper plate i have, it's leftover printplate with copper on both sides.

Those planes should be placed at both sides at this position.

Those components are ready to be stored for the future.

For now i'm dedicaded to sanding, when finished she will be primed, want to create panellines by masking off those places and build up the lines with lot's of coatings primer.

Sanding is done, marked off the panels with tape and first layers of primer are on,

Pre drilled the holes for the front dive-planes, will give her a couple more coats of primer to get me the panellines.

Made the cradle for creating the mold, kept it simple, it just has to do her job.

When finished with priming i can take off the tape and give her the final paintjob, this paint has to cure at least 48 hrs, from that point i can start making the mold, it all sounds simple but i hope to get me a hull end of september, pushing forward before the tempartures drop.

All joking aside. This is another example of your excellent ability to make such small models work in a credible manner, Manfred. I never miss a post of yours -- always something to learn.

Indeed, you do, my friend. This forum needs the occasional make-over from real Craftsman who shun the orthodoxy; without us this site slides into a bland, safe shade of gray. Keep banging on, pal -- you, Steve, Bob, Darrin, and a few others are the only reason I hang around this place.
