I appreciate the need to unstrap and turn the hull around to make the second cut -- but make sure you maintain the boat 'level' when you do the other side. Go slow. Don't over-feed the blade into the work! The best blade for this is a large diameter, thin, diamond disc.

You a general aviation buff or an r/c plane nut?

Both! Not to mention RC heli's, boats, and a tank. ;)

The cut was made with just a little stress. I would not recommend the Dremel EZ Lock system. The kerf is a little wider than I would have thought as I think the blade wobbles on the shaft as you cut. It's all cleaned up and ready for the next step but I'm not. Break time!

I should have mentioned that it was best to go with a blade that was fixed to the shank. You're observation is correct: you were a victim of 'wobble'.

Bet you're glad that's over with!

Ah yes, but another hour of lovely DVD watching has me eager to carry on! David I can't help but smile every time I hear the sound of freedom in your DVDs. You must live near a Naval Air Station by the sound of it. I think it's ironic that I came up with the same deck hold down system for my U505 twenty years ago. Is the filler used in the horizontal seam a Bondo type product? Gawd knows I'll need lots of it..... And let's hope I don't glue the shafts in tight for the third time. I'm almost out of the wife's nail polish remover.

Damned right! ... Oceana Naval Air Station. Every day is an air-show. We're (my house) under the second turn of the approach 'S' when the wind is right.

Glad the DVD's are an inspiration -- that was the intent.

                Great minds think alike, Beeryboats.

I use the Evercoat Metal Glaze, but their Rage is good too. Get it from (duh!) Caswell.

I see it is late to post this, but the site is up again!
David, is this the blade you would recommend for he next hull cut? http://www.gyrostools.com/Circular-Saw-Blades,-Miniature---Works-with-*Dremel®-Miniature-Fine-Teeth-Circular-Saw-Blades/c15_43/p437/Saw-Blade-w/Mandrel-Set,-Fine-Teeth-2%22-Dia.--%2382-12015/product_info.html

yrostools was very quick to send the blade I ordered.
                  Peace,
                  Tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

You spent your youth in subs, I spent my in airplanes. The sound of a round engine or a RollRoyce Merlin always gets me running out of the house for a look. Now I have my own airstrip and nobody lands here...:(

                      Gear head!

Big, high-speed diesels make my XXXXXXXXXXXXXX (disgusting Merriman -- we don't wish to know about your non functioning parts). But those days are long gone (along with my low-frequency hearing).

Your own airstrip. I truely hate you!

Hey David, I sprung for the brass props from Caswell. How are they adheared to the shaft? CA?-----Oops! I just took the props out of the package and I see they are threaded. Ok, any idea what thread they are? I'm sure it's something I don't have the die for.

Arrrg! I got the thrust bearings glued in without glueing the shafts as well. But it looks like I may have one shaft that is every so slightly bent. Great....

I've got the Raboesch brass props from Caswell and I don't see any thread dimensions on the package. As they are made in the Netherlands I'm sure they are metric. I have very limited metric anything so I have no way to "figure it out" with a tap set. Can anyone lend a hand with the thread diameter and pitch?

I would expect them to be M4 (4mm) thread, which is 0.7mm pitch, with a 60 degree angle.

I had no luck at the jumbo hardware store trying to find the correct thread of the props. I do know it's not 4mm and 3mm is pretty loose. I need dog bones and couplers from the hobby shop so I'll take a prop along to see if they can size it for me. I did find the Raboesch catalog online but they make no mention as to what size the props are threaded.
