    3D printed Columbia class sub

I have been working on this for awhile now. It is my very first full design in Fusion 360. I want to thank Randy at RS Designs in Canada for his patience with all my questions and frustrations as I tried to learn how to create the CAD for this. Basically over my Christmas holiday I sat down and forced myself to get through it. While not perfect it has allowed me to print and assemble my rendition of the yet to be built Columbia class sub (SSBN 826). It is based on essentially two images I found online. One, an artists conceptual drawing and another a picture of a mock up perhaps displayed at an announcement event.

So here is mine so far. It is completely printed from ASA filament on my Ender 3 Pro. At 1/72nd scale it is 93" long with a 7-1/8" beam.

It contains a modular sub system with a water tight box, G2 Hydra 50 brushless motor/ESC combo, a couple140mm spheres for ballast tanks and two 5ah 12V SLA's.

It is being set up to run on 2.4 GHz. At present I only have a minimal amount of wiring left to complete it and them it is ready for trimming. I will be opening my pool next week to accomplish that. In addition it has micro LED lighting

Soon I will have video of it in the pool or at the lake.

I have also picked up a Qysea Fifish V6S that I will be testing in the pool as well.

My plan is to make it into a possible down sub rescue vehicle.

Soon. Once I have the last bit of wiring done I will post pics of the internals. I want to add bow and stern thrusters to it as well. They are what I ordered the ESC's for. I am also going to put a BLM on it to blow ballast as a back up to failsafe should it lose signal for longer than the maximum time limit of the BLM. As a note, the lights are controlled with a DimensionEngineering DELight controller which I programmed to give the right blink pattern on the yellow mast light. I will also post picks of it lit up too.

          Steve,

Awesome work! I can’t wait to watch the videos. Man that’s a big boat!

It looks like your first post may have had photos uploaded with the text but the photos are not visible. Is this the case?

I couldn't have gotten to this point without your help and forbearance. Thank you.

I would like to design a simple sub similar to the Thunder Tiger Neptune that could be manuverable enough to run in a pool and operated with a modular sub system on a choice of either 75MHz or 2.4GHz next. Something that could be considered entry level more than scale basically.

She is down to just finishing some component installs in the WTB. All the harnesses have been made and I added a couple of thrusters. My pool has been opened again for the season so it will be ready for trimming very soon. I will also get the Fifish wet for some testing as well and I am nearing a final design concept for a DSRV of sorts.

                    Hi Steve,

You have really done a great job on this build! Your printed hull is flawless, and if I did not know any better I would say it was 100% resin! I am also amazed at your expertise in building your running gear!
Your work shows a lot of patience and solid know how! Thanks for taking the time to share it with us!

Thank you Rob! I am really looking forward to having this one done. I like trying new things. This one has the propulsor, X-tail and thrusters plus I just love the looks of it.

All of the wiring is now finished so she is down to programming the radio and then time to get wet. I had to re-do the WTB so I took the opportunity to lay it out a little different. It now has a 'T' shaped removable tray to better accommodate the electronics. The box is set up to work with either an 'X' tail or standard cruciform configuration.
