The paint arrived yesterday afternoon, so now Romeo Romei (S 529) is progressing. Can't find a source for those tiny 1/96 scale depth markings however.

Have to clean up the windows a bit, but the lights are fully functional.

First trial in the pool. ADF is a bit sensitive and I broke yet another drive coupler.

There is a lot of torque when you go from forward to immediate reverse. Other than that it looked real nice in the water! well done, Captain.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Thanks Mate. There is a whole lot of torque. I broke another coupling in that little effort.

I've had a persistent problem with trapper air (probably understandable at my age). When the boat dives there is a pocket of air that does not vent and prevents the boat settling. Fortunately there is a neat little hatch scribed in the rear deck at abouit the right place. Therefore:

There is a small operating rod attached to the hinge that opens the flap when the sail planes hit full down. Gravity and forward speed cplse it again (I hope).

My pleasure Sinior. One prefabricated aircraft undercarrage hinge and a bit of brass rod and you are away.

Just make a free moving trapdoor. Pressure from trapped air bubble forces flap up.

                            Btw, Love the rivet holes.

I tried the free moving trap door but the dammn thing flapped around like a tap dancer's instep so I went for a more controlled approach. Wasn't sure about the rivet holes at first but once I'd begun there was no turning back. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.

Wonder if you could make that vent of yours airtight and putting a pair front and aft making the whole casing a ballast tank.
