Mark are you going to pin it as well as ca? I'd be worried about it's shear strength of just the glue alone.

Nah, im too lazy for that. Thats why I cut all those grooves in both halves, to give the gap filing CA something to grab hold of. Thanks for the suggestion though.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

A little problem. Youll notice that the Skydiver is hollow. If I leave it alone then that will be a floodable space, filling with water. Once I seal it all up there wont be anyway to get back into it without messing it up. Im thinking of filling it with foam to keep that from happening. Maybe I will only have to add a little bit of weight to it later on to trim it. If I have to go back inside, itll mess things up.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Mamas, what can I use for this fine mesh screen on my 3 footer?

Non-functioning right? Meaning you are not looking to bring water through for flooding. A pair of nylon stockings can be stretched and painted or metal coffee filters have a very fine mesh.If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.Comment

Mark, for the 5 footer I used a spatter guard (Woven strands) and cut it up with Scissors, I'm not sure if that will look ok for the 3 footer, the mesh on the long front part is stamped metal that I picked up at a hardware store. (B&Q over here) I think the 3 footer had etched mesh (Hasegawa)Comment

Mark if it's a static build then maybe you could also look at using some cheap nylon stockings stretched out on a wire frame that you can glue in. Or checkout the stuff made by verhlinden (spelling might be off)they do an extensive range of pe for the military modeling world. A trick I have done in the past with somewhat success is mixing some two part putty, laying it flat then rolling a piece of cloth with a weave pattern that you want over the putty. After carefully removing the cloth let the putty dry, cut it to shape, paint it and then apply a wash before finishing it off with a light dry brush to highlight the 'grill/mesh'.Cheers,
Alec.

Thanks Alec and Mamas. Nope, shes definately going to be operational. Shes going to be "Seaskimming" all over the place...er...pond. And of course, diving to "Maximum Safe Depth" as they said in the episode "Destruction". By the way........Maximum safe depth is 600 meters. A little FYI. I was thinking, I was wrong about filling the Sky part with foam. She should be open and allowed to flood along with the rest of her. Maybe I will leave the lower air intake completely open and drill some holes along the top to get the air out during the dive. I will probably end up inserting some foam in to trim it later during Sea trials. Also , the canopy will be installed but the windows cut in but left open.............I think. Anyone care to suggest anything different?Last edited by greenman407; 07-05-2013, 11:52 AM.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

Here are some screen shots from the series. They are useful to help model this thing. Take note of the lights mounted under skydiver.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

One thing that I noticed was the difference in views of the same thing. For example. Look at the missile tube nozzles that are painted white. In one view from the cockpit, they are long and more pointed, very attractive. However when viewed from this second picture, they are shorter and more rounded. Just an observation.

As with most of not all the models made for filming, there were often glaring differences between the different scales of the same model. Most people just go with what they like. You can mix and match :)
I prefer the larger Skydiver (In the pen) but I dont like the window arrangement so I go with the 2 foot stand alone version. the Matra missile cones on that one are different yet again from both shown above. Will drive you crazy if you let it.Comment

I was always disappointed that Sky always used a one shot missile. I figured that as the UFO accelerated away, they would only get one opportunity, so they should be blasting away with those formidable looking cannon at the same time.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment
