Also JohnG, Thanks for the paint color info. That could save me a lot of trouble. The Tamiya color in a spray can, isnt that for Lexan car bodies or will that work on GRP?

Actually yes the Tamiya PS-52 Champagne Gold is a decent color. Use a nice grey primer underneath as it's a light color with real aluminum flake in it & rather transparent. Additional coats with proper drying between. Detailing with darker or lighter flat toned tans for various panels, & proper "dirtying down" with pencil lead & pastel dust soot will give a pretty good end result that looks like the orginal.

Just remember that Champagne color looks different from every angle so don't get confused by that!

Since the Oscar is finished and the Albacore is in the works, this project is getting ready to hit the work bench again. That way if Im waiting for parts or trying to make up my mind on how to do something, I can always drop back and do some on this one. Im trying to get a hold of the Tamiya paint that JohnG recommends. Ill get a couple of cans and run some tests.

Yeah Well..............Thats not working very well. I called Tamiya and it seems that a goverment agency is making them rework all their paint and labels. Ive been trying to get some of this stuff for 6 months and it looks like its going to take longer. I do have the paint sample that Mamas sent me and I could take it to a paint shop and have it matched. But that would be in automotive paint that is really dificult for me to get to lay down without orangepeel. I just recieved my new Paashe type H airbrush and regulator. Maybe I should get some paint and practice. Maybe with an airbrush itll work better. The stuffs expensive though and then it would sit around for over a year before I could even hope to use it on the actual model. (Heavy Sigh)! He's on his favorite

If you're getting orange peel, it means it's going on too thick. Thin it out more, and put on lighter coats.

Just to see what JohnG was talking about , I ordered some Tamiya Champain Gold spray paint today. Also I dusted off the parts and pulled her out of storage and brought her here to the workshop. Now , Thats Progress!

John Goode will loft off these parts to produce a proper set of drawings from which I can make patterns, tools and eventual parts. I'm thinking of a steam-propelled, flyable SKY-1 (think, Bell rocket-pack).

                    David,
Thats a very early 90s kit that was produced by a guy named Bob Denham, He used My Sky 1 vacform kit as a master. Interestingly he used oasis foam to make the diver section.

Hi Mark, Yep I came onboard and glad to be here, Never mind about not completing your Skydiver, I still have to finish my 5 foot one which im just starting back on (so many other things get in the way) I will be starting a new thread about it in the next few days since I got hold of a couple of new water jets for it.

                                Hiya Mamas!
I'm supposed to finish my 57" Deboers Seaview (another thread on here) & I'm near ready to finish
your 1/24th Sky-1 when the weather will allow me to spray toxic fumes outside.
And then there is the ever present Mobile quest. *sigh*.... Easier to find & capture Bigfoot!
                                cheers mate.
                                Johnny
