Rudder Actuation in close tolerance sterns, i.e. Type XXI, TXXIII style?

Might the fellows having built similar to the above in 1/72 scale, or smaller, share how they accomplished reliable rudder actuation in their projects? Pictures would be wonderful!! I have a 1/72 Foxtrot project going and am in need of a good system to make the turny-thing work! I did the work in a 1/35 Bronco Type XXIII, but there's a whole lot more room in that beast.

    TIA, Happy 4th!!

          Bill,

I have an idea on paper for using a robotics timing belt and pulleys. I also have a stainless chain from some old school radio gear that may work if I find the right size sprockets.

Hey! Hey! Hey! I know exactly where these flat-tipped, stubby meat-grabbin' digits can go and what they can do! Had enough trouble getting a horn to work in the Type XXIII. I also know how much fun it is tryin' to use hot-metal glue to make teenie-weenie little horns without removing my fingerprints by accident!!! ;)

Well, now I'm looking for a source for a teenie-tiny rack and pinion set up, suitable for use in only 3/16" of space. The smallest horn I have still will not clear the hull side and pivot the rudder stock (1/16" brass rod). I could cut a slot in the hull, or manufacture "blisters" for each side with a slot underneath for horn arm clearance, but that would destroy the fine lines of this racy looking subject. She's one of the RPM Tech 1/72 Foxtrot hulls, and a production hull that seems to differ greatly from the one HWSNBN built in some areas. Can anyone share a source for really small rack and pinion sets? Such info could be of benefit to us all for actuating little features. TIA.

                    Bill

PS- I did look at the Servo R&P Bob has, and it is too big also.

I found a small plastic rack and pinion set among some stuff from a friends estate. ID'd the pieces to use and will be making those pieces fit, post haste!

You could draw a rack and pinion out in cad then have it 3d printed in nylon.

Or use a pair of small bevel gears, then you can the control shaft can use a rotary seal.
