    Depth controller and pitch controller

If using a depth controller can I also use a pitch controller? Is there any advantage? Would they work together? Would the DC control the forward planes and the PC control the rear planes?

Do not cross-link the bow planes and stern planes. Two independent sub-systems that do different things.

Angle-keeper minds the boats pitch angle via the stern planes. The Depth-keeper fine-tunes the boats depth through the bow/fairwater planes. Two discrete channels.

... say your boat is cruising along at a depth of 3' and you decide you want to go to a depth of 5', then the captain would use the stern planes to dive to 5' and the bow planes would automatically fight this until the new depth is achieve? or must the captain manipulate both channels during the dive? trying to understand the interaction of both sets of planes. Thanks for the clarification. Khim

Use the fairwater/sail/bow planes for depth change.
Automatic pitch controller keeps the boat on even keel.

What Redboat said above. Drive the boat down with the bow planes. Bow planes for depth. Stern planes will work autonomously via the pitch controller to handle the dive on a relatively even keel.
