    Using 2 channel radio

Acquired some 1/10 scale nitro cars way back 2009. Been sitting in storage for years. They came with 2 channel pistol radios 27-75mhz.

I was wondering if anyone tried using 2 channel radios in RC subs. Rudder and throttle only. Fixed dive planes.

Don't see why this cannot be used, depth control will be tied with speed and diving will be dynamic. Might be able to do slight surface/periscope depth cruising if the sub is trimmed right and the speed is kept low.

Did that a looooong time ago. Working diveplanes are the way to go... two channels for an submerged boat with only slightly positive bouyancy, o.e. half your sail sticks out, rest in the water.

Maybe use it on something more in the lines of a fantasy vehicle or fish shape than scale.

Back in the 1980’s when multichannel sets cost a small fortune, quite a few modellers used 2-channel sets for subs, however they tended to use them with a latching/bistable relay controlling throttle, with the relay triggered by a micro switch and extreme throw of one of the servo based channels. Obviously no proportional throttle or reverse available, and the boat will need to be trimmed low in the water for easy dynamic diving.

The pegged open throttle will keep you on your toes. You really want to use a stick based transmitter though, or it's going to be very interesting controlling depth with a trigger!

With the low cost of R/C these days, you have to be either doing it for a giggle or seriously fiscally challenged to go to the bother.

With the right futaba 2 ch transmitter and receiver, you can mod them to be a 4 channel unit. They have a 4 ch chip.
              (2 stick futaba attack sport)

Also add a TX channel extension board for total of 7 channel. Also make a Futaba 4ch AM RX to a 8ch.

Any one interested in a how to 12, 16 channel FM system.

Or you can make it like some old Japanese plastic sub kit, bobbing up and down.
