Mystery solved: S 31 was a BALAO FLEET / SNORKEL. The others were GUPPY II, with prop guards removed. So, you were right. Anyway, I'll try to find the pictures. About hese three, first one is an OHIO.

First one is "LE REDOUTABLE" (SSBN) in display at Cherbourg; second one is a "BARRACUDA", the new SSN following RUBIS class, and the third is S637 "ESPADON" (Narval class) in display at Saint nazaire.

By the way, not about tails but sails, frenchs seem to be fond of sail mounted fore planes. They use to desing their subs this way, with thin sails and highly positioned fore planes.

reddevil, the first one is indeed the Redoughtable. The second one however, I have listed as Le Troimphant a sister to the Terrible as the Barracuda is a future class now under construction due to be launched in 2016. The third one is the S-636 Argonaute, on display in Paris. Thanks for playing and keep it up.

Uhmmm. ARGONAUTE is a sister of the ESPADON and their tails are the same (so, only 0,5 points) Nothing to say about LE TRIOMPHANT. I misidentified it between the picture and a drawing talking about the new class. I've been trying to spot the subs through GOOGLE EARTH. Anyway, thank you for the great ammount of pictures and fun with this quiz.
