Whos been paying attention? I spy a unfamiliar shape. What could it be??? The first clue is that its Russian. The second clue is that its relatively new.

The Russians were definitely pushing convention here. The Bars class of which the Gepard was one of, were very unusual subs in that they carried torpedoes on the outside of the hull. Here are a couple more shots. I'm not a big fan of WW1 subs but when I find a picture of one thats this good I keep it.

I Spy the latest in Russian Submarine technology!!

Im with you Outrider, the following picture convinces me.The shape of the bow and that large light or whatever it is just in front of the men in the sail of the first picture.Also the shape of the top front of the sail and the two handrails.

I'll go with a Whiskey. The photo shows retracted bow planes, a Type XXI like bow with no sonar atop the deck. The sub looks kind of small, too.

Could be a Zulu, but the Zulu looks to have too little room topside for a photo like this to be taken.
