Worth is a subjective call, and can't be imposed. Fair enough, the big N doesn't do it for you. However I bet there is some exotic thing (what's her name, again?) you would shell out the money that others would baulk at. We all have special wants and desires and money will be found to achieve those things.
Hey, stick to your guns, Rick. I'll never damn you for that.

As explained in my thread about this kit, I had seriously considered that, until I started counting all the hull rivets.
That count, and that I was restoring a '29 Packard at the time, slowed me down on that project, but since this latest Hope for a kit, in the size I wanted, has Not worked out for the best, I may consider working on it again.
I have 2 others to complete first tho. Maybe I will find another source, for the hull, before I'm ready. ;)Last edited by toppack; 03-19-2009, 08:39 AM.Rick L.

Well there's the rub. Those Ohio kits are $1500 dollars BTW, they don't have an interior, and you could fit a pair of them inside the hull of a 1/32nd nautilus, not to mention the much lower amount of detail on a modern nuke compared to one these babies.
There's been a series of articles over the past 18 months or so in the Sub Committee Report outlining the construction of an impressive Disney Nautilus. The chap has very methodically gone about the process, and has come up with some novel methods of construction in the process, especially the way it's is riveted.
It's taken him about four or five years so far, so quite a long term project.Comment

I won't say what I think about that. Mike does not like us to use Bad words. :D
Yes, I've been doing research on the Nautilus for a long time. I also purchased a CD with hundreds of pictures, drawings and copies of internet forum discussions about construction of the various versions and sizes. The CD has great Info.
Thanks for the suggestion, but I think you are talking about the maker of the kit we have been cussing and discussing. If not, could you give me the User's name on Sub-Committee site?
I've definitly not given up on the project, the latest was just another set-back. :rolleyes:Last edited by toppack; 03-19-2009, 11:58 AM.Rick L.

it's got nothing to do with Bob Martin. AFAIK, the chap doesn't post on the Sub Committee forum, just writes in the magazine.Comment

This kit is being marketed by Bob Martin -- an excellent scratch-builder and driver in his own right. However, I'm informed, the lion's share of the masters, tools, and parts production is done by a full-time professional, Jim Key. A master Craftsman, Jim is producing the kits, and is being assisted by Bob Martin. Bob handles sales.
I was brought in as an interested third-party to produce the special SubDriver needed by this unique craft for those wishing to convert it to r/c.
For what it's worth, Mr. Key's level of Craftsmanship is on a par with mine. Nuff said.

You have to be a member to get the report, although you can purchase back issues without having to join, but it works more expensive.
I take it you already know about http://www.nautilussubmarine.com and the now defunct http://www.disneysub.comComment
