They will come up for you because the photos are on your system, but try this, edit your posting and try to enlarge one. My guess is, you will not be able to. To fix, highlight all the photos in your post then upload the photos again. This will replace the bad links with new ones. This is what I have to do if I take too long completing my post.
1/72 Revell Of Germany Type-9 .... It Starts!

It's a short 2.5". Going with the bigger diameter made better use of the available real-estate in there -- doing it with the bigger diameter cylinder meant I could make it shorter, leaves plenty of room for a practical forward and after nest.
Today I got the prototype SD operational. Note all the electrician's tape covering holes left as I rearranged the SAS plumbing do-dads atop the cylinder .... that's what prototypes are for; to wring out the problems and find the fixes before setting things in stone.
Other than the purpose built motor-bulkhead, the thing is very much arranged like any other 2.5" SD. Ten-pounds of **** crammed into a five-pound bag. Yadi-yadi-yadaa!
The first shots, I'm proofing the newly designed snorkel head-valve installed within the model kits sail.
Works fine, fails safe, drains to the bilge.
After getting all the devices installed and powered up I dialed in the ADF2 and ESC. Then a leak-check followed by an in-water system check. A day's worth of effort, but the thing's working. Tomorrow I see if I guessed right on ballast tank volume.
Oh ... and a big thank you to Tom who, this morning, taught me how to program the WFly receiver so I could get the SAS ballast sub-system to work on loss-of-signal.

Dave , would this type 9 motor bulkhead do the job for the revell gato?
I know nothing is free when it comes too electricity ( so KMC keeps telling me , but what does he know , enginers !!! Highly educated tinkers!)
! 380 driving both shafts looks great , be interested in amp draw and conservitive run time lead foot.

Yeah, What does Kevin know. That over-educated, well spoken, snappy dressing, FAI contest quality flyer, sophisticated SOB! I hate him. Oh, and .... ugh! ... he's Canadian!

Have a look at your other 2 shaft sd. is it viable too convert the others too save space and weight?
2 380's geared 3:1 each vs 1 380 geared 3:1 X 2
Has this doubled the load on the motor? ( not that it can not handle it.)
Would 1 380 geared 6:1 for twin shaft = the load of a single 3:1 ?, I guess an amp meter could tell the tale.
How did you figure out the "lash" needed?

That Balgerat sonar dome was on quite a few IXs and not particular to the 505. I believe I gave yall a heads up on getting a prototype kit from revell R&D quite a few months ago after Oto got his. He has brass decks for it if anyone is interested. One may want to upgrade the revell guns with brass as well while there at itComment

Would the type vii SD be amenable to such a set up? I remember you mentioning that the 2 280s are also too much.Make it simple, make strong, make it work!Comment

The three-piece deck will be secured by magnets only, as will the sail to the middle deck piece. I designed and fabricated a proof-of-concept set of magnet foundations, installed them and they worked fine. Now to make an identical set which will be masters off of which I make a tool for the fittings kit parts.

Dave, I was wondering about the magnetic influance on the electronics. I just happen to be VP of production of my daugher's magnet buisness and have access to quite a veriety of sizes, shapes and power. If you would like, I can send you a variety of small synthetics to check out, for further projects. Those you are using, look like what we use. I put some small 5x1 mm discs in brass tubing that I made the retractable bollards and used them for a 1/48 scratch build type VII to hold the decks down. Im thinking I will do that to the big type II, if I ever get around to working on it this winter.Last edited by Von Hilde; 12-21-2013, 07:58 AM.Comment
