I know. We had this discussion back then and you showed these pictures and I tried. Built a jig for the dremel and tried the cut. Still couldn't pull it off: The plastic hull would bend ever so slightly and the result would be a non straight cut. I tried several times, that's how I ruined a bunch of Bronco kit hulls, but none would cut nicely. Even when the cut was ok-ish, I would end up with too much material lost between the halves to have a nice closure. In addition the two halves are too thin to sit nicely on top of each other.

Your photos make it look so easy, but I know different. It looks so easy because you are a master at what you are doing. Not because it is actually easy.

If you still have those kits would you like to sell them? I could make fittings from the rudder and planes etc. to share.

I created the prop shaft base in 3D resin. I will be working on the rest like WTC bulkheads, but not the dive planes. I do not think that is necessary (although all of it is not necessary really) because it is simple enough to convert the subs kit planes. Don't you think?.

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

I’m pretty sure Maximus uses the Bronco kit, and only manufactures the WTC, not XXIII.

Correct, but he fabricates the fittings to use with the Bronco kit

While I said that I would never build a plastic conversion again, I have to admit that in my closet I still have the Lindberg IJN I-53 model kit and I do want to build that one day. I'm hoping in that case that a cut of the hull won't be necessary and that I can use the "natural" deck line as a removable top akin it is done with the Revell Type VII boat. Not to hijack the discussion here. Maybe somebody else will do the same thing and share some build progress on here?
