    Underwater Patrol

    Hey guys,

I had an opportunity to run my U-boat at a clearwater canal earlier this summer. Here is the video from that day.
Special thanks to Mr. Dwayne Hill for helping me record the underwater footage!

    Cheers,

    Nate

Looks like you're not using an angle keeper. Great footage!

      Hi David,

That’s correct! All manual depth control in the video. I’ve since installed an AD-2 into the WTC, can’t wait to test it next spring!

Put that gizmo in there and start to really enjoy that fine looking boat of yours.

And consider making those bow planes practical and drive them with the DC.

I have spoken! (Crash of thunder, and blinding flashes of light).

Ditto! I’ve kept the front dive plane linkages in place in case I need to actuate them, just gotta drop a waterproof servo in there and I’m good to go.

              Come on, Nate!!

What's with you guys and the current fad of sticking a $50 servo in the wet where it doesn't belong???? If God wanted servos in the wet, he would have cloaked them in scales! Most 'watertight servos' aren't! And they most likely will die a horrible death between seasons.

If you have room in your watertight space for a $3 servo that will outlive you, do it this way.

It's nothing to link the bow plane control horn to the servo through a long pushrod.

Keep your servos out of the wet! Don't make me come over there!

LOL! It just so happens that I ran out of space in my WTC for the bow plane servo when I enlarged the ballast tank, the old one could only get the sub to deck awash…beginner’s miscalculation on my part… I’m learning as I go ;)

I should’ve clarified that I actually meant waterproofing one of the standard micro servos by encasing it in it’s own mini WTC, either in the shape of a small box or cylinder, we’ll see.

                Cheers,
                Nate

Hey! No sweat. I've painted myself into many a corner too, Nate.

A dedicated WTC for the bow plane servo. Good plan!

And a very nice job on that Type-2 of yours. Weather it!

A unique location that’s for sure! The water is about 25ft deep in the middle of the canal so Dwayne actually brought his scuba gear in case one our boats went down ;)

Nate, you should show David your Type IX.

Ah yes, the U-129. Revell 1/72 Type IXC conversion with a homemade snort WTC:

I don't have a gas back-up system installed since my sailing pond is only 12 inches deep, this model is perfect for that. If anything goes wrong I just take off my shoes and go fish it out!

You forgot your drawing of the ballast tank with the inclined plane actuators.

Very, very well packaged internals. Well thought out and executed, sir. You did that Revell kit justice.
