    Steve,

I'm looking forward to your build log as you progress with this, it will be very interested to see the details of the techniques you use to build from styrene sheet. Do you have any photo's and details of your Nautilus build using this method?

Wonder if it would be possible to use those paper craft models as guides. So instead of paper you use styrene sheets.

It may be possible, Mr. Bob Martin and I have talked about this before and I am sure he will work it out.

          Way off topic.
          anyway,
Print it at a toner base color laser printer with polyester paper. Waterproof and don't have to paint it!
Should have print them out at the old job.

Finally some progress. Enlarged the plans in Photshop. Created a PDF and printed them out. Made bulkheads and started sheeting the center section of the boat. Love this. No masters, No molds. No fiberglass castings. Just build a boat bulkhead by bulkhead. I'm shooting a video and will post later this week my prgress and how I did this.

Thanks for posting photos of the start of your build, very interested to see the techniques you are using. What thickness of styrene sheet are you using? The Type-II model in the video by Neitosub was made with 2mm and 3mm styrene. Also do you preform the curve of the hull skin sheets in any way before attaching them?

I'm using O.30 styrene. 0.60 for the formers but I plan to double them up for the rest of the build. I didn't preform but I thinking about doing that for the rest of the build. This is all an experiment in free form for me. the center section could have been better but is usable. I'm learning as I go because I have always build masters in the past of foam and epoxy glass I later molded and cast hulls from.

I'm am at the moment editing part one of this build for a video series that will show you exactly how this is all being done. Will post this weekend.

Ok here we go. Part one is up. In the next video I will use my hi-end camera and tripod to get the actual sheeting process on camera.

Steve, will you be glassing over the styrene?

No. I'm not going to do that. It would be stronger but I think I'll be OK. I have done so much fiberglass epoxy in my time. I need a break from it.

Looks great Steve! I've been lurking around the forums lately and finally decided to make an account. For my Type II build, I preformed the styrene plates by heating it with a heat gun and curving it by hand. I should specify that I actually used two layers of 1mm (0.040") styrene for the hull. Thinner sheets made it easier to form the curvature of the hull. The second layer was cemented onto the first. I took some pictures of my build on my phone and can post them if anyone is interested.

                              Cheers,

                              Nate
