Thank you Tom! This was an interesting build when it came to setting up the ballast! I think just a little more weight to set it under a little more will do it. Full up on the ballast system will bring it to about 1.3/4" above the water line. The photo shows it at full down at this point, which is not to bad at this point. I finally built a boat that can static dive if need be!! I thank David M. for helping me with MSD that he gave me, and with his help setting up the snorkel system, we made it work!!! Thank you David!! Bob Martin was also very helpful as well!

I sent the video to Bob Martin to put it up on my build blog, I just have not figured out how to do a video on our forum!

    Now onto the finish work!

Upload your video to YouTube then post the link here.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

It worked fine, Rob. But next time shoot/load in HD. This low-end version is almost unwatchable.

I am hearing you & learning David! Next video will be better! Just like building subs, there are steps that lead up from the depths of hell before we newbies get it right, and then the perfect video and submarine!!

I have made some headway on my final finish work on the Hunley! I have two coats of primer applied inside and out, and two coats of FLAT black paint for my base coat!

I have my rust samples complete, and the three acrylic water base paints I will be applying to achieve the rust finish that I am looking for. The acrylic will be applied using old house paint cheap brushes, and using a dabbing motion to get the results. It will be time consuming, but the effect, I think will look great!

Thanks David! I will certainly give the sponge a test run before I start the final finish! Thank you for your in site on the sponge idea! I can see where it would have its advantages...

I used a sponge on the acrylics, and it works much better than brushes to achieve the rusted effect! It is also more uniform and easier to apply. The nice thing about the sponge it allows you to apply one color on the entire sub and then go back with the additional colors as you need to to achieve the final results!

I seem so smart today because I've long ago used up most of my inventory of dumb-ass moves.

The finish I decided on was more of a subdued smooth rust, rather than the scaly and chip look! A boat that is out in the weather, ready for use, but could use another coat of black paint.
All I have left to do is put some rust indication where rust would build up, corners, bolts, rivets nothing to dramatic. Then apply a matt acrylic clear coat and it will be complete!

Thank you David! And along with this I want to thank for the 2.5" MSD that you gave me, and all your help in getting it set up to actually function as a true SD in this boat! It worked and it works well, thanks to you!
I will post up some photos after the touch ups and the clear coats are completed! Thanks to everyone that helped me on this build...
