Real good detail shots of the 21s, the Bauer seems to be welded to the pier. What about the eb and flo of the tide? Or is it insignifacant in that harbor. Also theres that mysterious bulge on the foredeck again, in the underway pics of her. The guy who built the model has painted the stripe orange, as well as the periscopes. Not very stealthy. Notice the yellow stripe on her in early post war pics The yellow stripes on the towers indicated a "Training boat" during" the war. She must have been the primary trainer for the couple that were operational. Sorta like "Caution, Student driver" stay clear. Some people think the stripes are white, because they have only seen B&W pics. Im real curious about the gun turrets operation. Some pics there visible and others they arnt. Were they retractable? I know there were several variations of the 21 towers with and without the guns. Possiblly due to the fact that there were 3 different manufacturers. Blohm&Voss,Hamburg, the same guys that built the BV 135 airplanes, built 46 boats. A G Wesser built 41, and F. Schichau one boat. Heres a couple varients of the towerLast edited by Von Hilde; 12-18-2012, 06:33 AM.Comment

Target practice on u 177, the guy is using a left sided edjection port automatic, so its not the standard issue P08 luger or P38. Looks like a John Browning design like a 1911 colt or Browning Hi Power. Rather unusual weapon for a German sailor to have aboard. Note, the target is a british sailor with a slung rifle, fixed bayonet. Like a beach sentry. Possiblly a secret squirrel, keeping his chops up for the mission. That boat operated off of E. Africa on its war patrols. Could be a neet spy story there.Comment

The picture Is most likely printed with the negative reversed. A common mistake often made. A good example is the well known film of the USS Arizona's magazine explosion. It was taken taken with a color camera from a hospital ship across the harbor for approximately 15 min. The only part that has survived the time is about a 10 second B&W clip with the ship facing the wrong direction, that is shown over and over. The curious thing is, if the pic is reversed, the target man is slinging the rifle on his left. That is more unusual. Here's one.
Someone printed of a type II with the exhaust port on the port side. ??? Rare, indeed. BTW, Admiral, zero four fifty two??
Damn near lunch time. I was in the water at 04 russeling up a breakfast lobster, for my eggs bennedict. By sun up, them buggs go hide for the day.Last edited by Kazzer; 12-22-2012, 05:54 AM.Comment

Zero five eighteen. Waiting on the sunrise with my telescope facing east. No sign of the sizigy, too cloudy on the horizon today. I normally takes me less than 15 min to paddle down the canal to the lobster hole and grab a couple and get back to the house for free. It takes me about 15 min to get ready to go to Winn Dixie, about 10 min round trip, and a good 10 min in the line at the store. One lobster tail is about seven bucks. Did I mention that WD isn't open till seven. I don't keep fish in the fridge unless I have already eaten some of it. I don't wait on fish either, They wait for me. I noticed you posted last at 11:55, but it didn't show up on my computer until now. It must be that down here in the Keys, we are on Southern Standard Time, which is our own time zone, and is not relative to EST or zulu by any means. Torpedo loading the type IX pics there are 100 cases of something stacked by the loading hatch. What do you suppose they would need a hundred cases of, for the 60 some guys for a couple weeks? Most likely food, probably canned goods. Might be Ammo for the 88 if its stacked forward. I doubt for the Flak. The type VII loading between the two IXs in the bunker is a unique pic. I wonder how they lifted it over the boat inboard, to get to their boat. There seems to be no apparatus attached to either boat on either side, or a chain fall from the ceiling above the boats.
these were sub marine yesterday, when they thought they would live forever 12-21-2012 "wont be long now"Last edited by Kazzer; 12-22-2012, 05:50 AM.Comment
