Did some work on the forward bulkhead, and started testing if everything works.

Placed some stronger servo's and added a smaller one for steering the dive-planes up and down.

Took apart the mechanism for extending the dive-planes, the throw was not good enough to extend them all the way.

Everything ready to be tested on the workbench.

Made a vid to show how everything works, now it's on to test the SD in the wet to see if she is watertight, from that stage i can thinking about giving the boat the plunge into the testpool, to be continued.

Maybe David still has some 1/96 torpedoes.
Make it simple, make strong, make it work!

If the XXI was on 1/72 scale it might work, but at this scale you don't have the room to get it in.

Did some testing with the SD, slapped on some paint and made the first plunge in the testpool,

Since i had problems with retracting the dive-planes on some occasions i decided to build a guide which will prefent the planes to droop down.

Tested the SD, only one O-ring was leaking, made a easy fix by placing another O-ring glued in with 2K Epoxy, for now she's watertight.

Since we have a good week with sunshine and higher tempartures, slapped some primer on the boat, revealing all the nice details.

Also got some paint on all the things which will be placed at the conningtower, when trimming everything has to be present at the model.

Did the first plunge into the testpool, like a proper Uboat she went to the bottem as a brick, it took this amount of foam to get her near the waterline, opened up the ballasttank and again she went for the bottum, have to add much more foam at the deckpart.
Once this is done, i´ll be back with the results, to be continued.

Trimmed the XXI, and some work on the Spirou which will be updated at it's thread.

It took this amount off foam to get her balanced under water, because i needed a big chunk of foam at the front steering the front dive-planes up/down is off the record, so be it.

Balanced under water, just the top of the sail above the water, i can do it this way since the schnorkelmast is used to suck air in to bring the boat up.

As well under as above water she is listing to the right, i'll have some lead to shuffle around, within a few weeks i have a meeting in Germany in a swimmingpool, so there will be the maiden- voyage, first sort out the listing and make her ready for the maiden.

Manfred, what do you mean by "the front dive-planes up/down is off the record"

                Romel,
There is no room left at the front to get my steeringrod at it's place, i need that piece of foam to get me balanced underwater.

for tilting the dive planes up and down only or even the deploy/ retract mechanism?

Only for tilting the dive-planes,the mechanism for extending them is in the lower part of the boat, so no issue's with that

So, they'll 'work' just like the Walther boats?
                      Who is John Galt?

                        That's an idea worth exploring.
Like the diveplanes on the Type 206.
Dive planes are at fixed angle and are extended and retracted to initiate change in depth.

Not really, i can extend them, but to the lack of room gobbled up by the foam, can't tilt them.

The type 17b uses a wingshaped foil to counteract poor handling at low speeds, hope to get some results with that if i got some more drivingtime under the belt, the swimmingpool in Germany will be the ideal testinground.

Got the lead shifted on the keel, now she lays straight in the water, as well under water.

Added some new antenna wires on the outside, she will be tested in this colour, once done i can think about the permanent paintjob.

Only thing i added, was a extra floodhole at the back, since that is a removable part i need to vent it seperatly.
