Bart,
Just vised your WWW site. Reading the 'about us' page -- specifically, the 'how it all started' section -- you had some outrageously kind words about me! Is there another David Merriman out there I don't know about? …..…. if so I want his head on a plate!
Other than that waste of band-width I found your site to be well presented and most informative. Good job, pal.

Furthermore your hemorrhoids are feeling that they deserved a honorable mentioning.

Fantastic work, the hand crafted vs 3d printed is one that will run and run.
I see myself self akin to Lister on board Red Dwarf, who has access to a food replicator which can produce anything, but only eats curry and lagerLeave a comment:

I was going to say something smart aleck when I first read the comment by David, but thought naw, best be nice. That cat meme catches my reaction when I read the remark better than I could have worded it. Well done Andy (or do you prefer Andrew?)Leave a comment:

I look upon it as an augmentative technology. Some are using it to completely replace existing methods of construction, but interestingly used that way it often leads to an inferior result.
Looking at things from the past thirty years or so, how many fully scratch build models- it's tiny and has been contracting with each decade. Most modellers build kits.
3D printing is a step up from kits in the creative category IMO, as it involves design. Sure grabbing something off thingiverse and then squirting it out on a cheap Chinese edm printer doesn't involve much talent, but if you're taking things from a sketch to a full 3d component it does involve skills.
The craft aspect is diminished, no question, but many have been turning their backs to that long before the advent of consumer level 3d printing.Leave a comment:

Ha, ha! Very funny.
We are not amused!
(love the mime)
But, I would be a fool to not acknowledge that the 'new' technology does my job better, faster, and cheaper. **** it, I'm determined to enjoy my retirement. Time to, as MacArthur put it, "... just fade away".

The surface finish and detail of those printed parts is simply fantastic, Bart.

I spent quite some time in developing the mast outfittings (I don’t know all their specific names)…………then spent equal amount of time in trying to print them......I guess today the position of the sun and moon were perfectly because I managed to print them....I’m pretty happy with the amount of detail, even the bolt heads are visible, crazy stuff……here are the pictures of the raw pieces, supports are still present…….yeah I have to remove them without braking anything, wish me luck.
Enjoy the pictures
Grtz,
Bart
