The top two pictures show a 1/4" brass tube and the expansion tool that I used to flare the end just a little to make it the right size to cut out a hole in the masking tape to properly mask the center button on the part so I could paint it black. After these shots were taken I went back over it with a needle sharp paint brush to touch up that button as there were a couple of spots where the black paint bled thru onto the red.Last edited by greenman407; 08-30-2011, 08:48 AM. -
Here is the escape bouy marker in various stages of masking and painting. Came out pretty good. Thanks again Kevin, its perfect.Leave a comment:

After filing in the seam of the upper and lower bow halves, guess what? I can no longer see where to mask for painting. So, using a Laser level I put some marks on the model to mask from. Here you can see it on the kitchen table and I have already leveled the model. After shimming both the model and the height of the level I have a accurate line that I used to make my reference marks.Leave a comment:

On the front end of the sub there is a neat looking little antenna. You can see it here in the drawings. To reproduce it you would normally cut one out on a lathe. I dont have one. So, I improvised. I found this threaded brass coupler. Chucking it up in my drill, I used a dremel to cut it down to length and then taper it to the right shape. Later , a little bit of putty to fill in the imperfections and we will be good.Leave a comment:

The windshield for the bridge is seen here in the drawings and is showed installed. Unfortunately it doesnt fit the contour of the top of the sail. Another example of where Scaleships has not done their homework. Hopefully its so small nobody will notice. Once again the gloss paint interferes with a good look at it.Leave a comment:

I got the sail painted. Yes, its gloss black. Why? Because I dont like flat black. I dont want my sub to look like a piece of charcoal. By painting it gloss and then installing dry transfer decals, ill need some protection for the decals. Thats where the clear satin comes in. Itll knock the shine off the paint and give some protection for the decals and it wont look totally flat.Leave a comment:

Hi Mark,
I'm glad to see the rescue buoy has arrived safe and sound.
And finally whats this thing on top of the escape module? In some photos the inner section is painted red and not in others. I drilled a hole in it to let air out as its the uppermost area of the sail and a prime spot for trapped air to reside, SOOO many questions. Whos got the answers?Leave a comment:

Here are some of the sail vents installed. The slots just need to be cleaned out a bit. A blast of shop air should do it.
Here are the drawings showing the sail marker lights which appear to fold out when needed. Perhaps down the road a bit we will look into a lighting system from Kevin Mcleod.
