    1/96 Soryu

I'm sure I have OCD or some other brain fart desease. Today was planned to be spent on fixing the few remaining bugs in the Oscar followed by a session in the bath to get trip sorted out. However; the ballast valve isn't playing the game and I broke the bath plug....So.... I thought that it might be just as well to get on with something whilst I contemplated how to fix the valve and the bath.

In a kind of innocent, disconnected way I started to play with fitting the hull halves of the Soryu. Just dry fitting - you know the deal. Anyway before I knew it I had drilled and fitted the rear planes, drilled and fitted the prop shaft, attached the prop, fitted the linkages, trial fit the SD and made a drive shaft! If I keep on like this the boat will be in the water by tomorrow.

The hull is only about 2mm thick so I made some bearings to support the X-tail shafts and eliminate slop in the control surfaces.

Yep. It will share the same SD with the Alpha.

Wow Scott you do move fast,

If I make it on the weekend I'd love to have a close look at the Soryu kit. Bits, pieces hull halves and documentation. Want to see where a prospective mike kit matches up...

I suspect that your kit will be right up there. This one needed lots of work and wasn't cheap.

ID:	110803 I fitted the 2.5" SD that usually drives my Alpha. The intention was to use the "V" mix function in my transmitter to run the X tail of this boat. Not so great as it turned out. I can get it to work but the servo throws are tiny; the end points can't be adjusted correctly; the rudder servo workes fine but the (slave) rear planes servo is all over the place. After an interesting few hours I gave up and fitted the 2" SD from my 212 which has a seperate X tail mixer already fitted.

I'm not going to get scale water line with this set up - the sail is too heavy but I will get to decks awash and that's good enough for now. I did have to put A LOT of lead in the keel to keep her upright. That damn sail is almost 5mm thick and its solid fiber glass. That said, everything went in fine and it all works. More trimming tomorrow and then the paint job. Hurrah.

Put the 2.5" SD back in there and install a mechanical X-tail mixer in the wet, between stern and motor bulkhead.
