Here we have the large Caswell snort system pump siliconed into the 3.5 Subdriver. One of the masts that comes with the sub is made of a hollow aluminum tube. It will serve as the snort mast.

I'd like to find the address of these Sullivan guys. This looks like an interesting connector.Stop messing about - just get a Sub-driver!Comment

Here we are with the lead weight and foam installed along with the Subdriver in its place. We are getting closer to getting this thing into the water.

This thing will hit the water for trim testing this saturday 5-15-2010 @ 8:30 AM sharp. In this session I will determine if I need to adjust the weight and foam(its a given) to achieve good submerged trim. At that point we will have to live with the surfaced waterline, whatever it may be, I beleive. We will also time the Snort system to see how long it takes to empty the ballast tank of water.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

That's a well done kit you have there, Mark. And that SD has plenty of ballast tank volume, and most, if not all of that ballast tank is below the designed waterline (the OSCAR class, like most Soviet boats, has a huge surfaced freeboard). I bet you float on are slightly above the designed waterline!

Thanks Dave, I will post the results on Monday.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

As promised , into
the water she went. AS you can see shes floating way too high in the front and too low in the back. At this point I realized that I had made the same mistake with the Seaview. I had installed the foam in the lower half of the hull when I should have put it in the lower half of the upper hull. So I will make that change and adjust further.

Hey, you're going to hit the designed waterline with freeboard to spare. Just move the forward foam up higher than the designed water line -- that will lower the bow and raise the ass-end. You're almost there, Mark.

While I was doing this trim testing and so forth I timed the Snort systems expulsion of the water in the ballast tank. On the 3.5" Subdriver using the large Snort pump it took 1.5 minutes to pump it dry. My plan is to video the Oscar moving along at periscope depth, then operate the Snort pump without touching the planes and observe its scalelike return to waterline. Also I took this opertunity to measure the boats thrust. Using my trusty digital fish scale it registered 1 lb. 5 ounces of pull. Yep it was tugging on that line pretty good. The props are 53mm 7 blade brass props counter rotating. The boats all up weight at this point is 14 lbs.Last edited by greenman407; 05-17-2010, 01:51 PM.IT TAKES GREAT INTELLIGENCE TO FAKE SUCH STUPIDITY!Comment

A huge set of scale drawings come with the hull. I had some of the terms translated. The crest that is on the bow under the torpedo tubes reads from left to right "Atomic Submarine Missle Cruiser".
All of the various masts are shown in detail and are given names that are not descriptive as I had hoped but were more like pet names, such as Bark, Radian , and Lightning.

Im going to assume that these drawings are accurate. I noticed in this drawing of a bow view headon that the hull at the waterline which is between the two rows of torp tubes Narrows significantly and then widens back out. The hull that I have certainly does not have this hull condition. Just a minor detail.

I am very concerned about these dry transfer decals. They look great but I am concerned that they are made to go on a flat surface. The large one goes on the bow below the torp tubes and is in an area of compound curves. I am afraid that it will wrinkle if you try to put it on. Also does the paint need to be flat or gloss when you apply them or does it matter?

In this picture you can clearly see that the bow decal is on there. How did he do it?This picture was sent to me by Scaleships.
