    New Bambu H2S 3D Printer

A couple weeks ago I picked up the new Bambu H2S, and so far it feels like an upgraded X1C with way more build volume. Since I’ve recently become a fan of X-sterns on subs, I made the questionable decision to start two builds at once.

I printed a 1/96 HMAS Rankin and a matching 1/48 version, both in ABS-GF, and both came out great. The 1/96 boat is planned for Cabin Fever in January, and the 1/48 is slotted for the Seattle-area show in April. The larger one is currently mocked up for Bob’s torpedo system from the Dive Tribe files—yet another reason to join Dive Tribe if you haven’t already.

The 1/96 build is getting a 2.5 Sub Driver and is basically ready to go. For the 1/48, I’m rebuilding a Shearwater (?) cylinder to power it.

Pay no attention to the lazy dog and dust in the background.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

I like the convenience of using the Bambu brand. No need to worry about any of the settings.

I finally broke down and ordered one for myself. That will net me 2 X1Cs and and the H2 along with my resin printers. I've got so many people asking for printed subs, it's a worthwhile investment on my part.

So the entire 1/48 model was printed in one run? In 1/48 scale, the Rankin model would be 63.5 inches. If it wasn't printed as a single part, what was the largest part size please?

The 1/48 is all of 63". The print was scaled up prints from the STL, but the bow and the first bottom segment were combined in the slicing process, so 13 segments total at 12-26 hours a segment. I did fiberglass the joints because of the size and weight. Scaling down the 1/96 I was able to combine 2 segments at a time for a much stronger print.

I was hoping to do a smaller boat like a 212a, not realizing that a Collins was a large conventional sub.
