    Silicone tube hack

I've wasted a lot of silicone tubes over the years because the cap never seals well, causing the tube to cure between uses.

I ran across this hack and have been testing it out. If you take some aluminum foil and cover the end of the tube before you put the cap on, it will prevent the silicone from curing. I have just opened up a tube that I last used a couple of months ago and the silicone is perfectly fresh.

Start with a small square of aluminum foil

Push the edges down and then put on the cap.

Good stuff! I've thrown out my share of half-full tubes of RTV sealant/adhesive. Thanks for the tip!

Good idea, just in time! 2 days ago had to cut open my super special super expensive super black super rtv cartridge to seal the toy sub( pictures in the build log of the ALFA to come).

ordered some new and cheaper, in a tube, from Bezo's.
      Gotta do that, too!

Is your Akula still running well? I had to replace the 'toy sub' wtc already. The chip for steering got somehow damaged, may short circuit during soldering...

The little Akula ran great at Subfest. I did get water in it during one run. I dried it out, lubed the seal, and didn't have any problems after that.

Great tip! Anything for saving Gel thick CA superglue? I buy in the store. tilt back and forth under a light in the store and seems ok, I open and start to use it cant come out. solid and useless. I just buy the thijnner stuff now.

Good news for my local ACE Hardware staff too. Gone to same store since 1989, (I'm the submarine models guy' to them) and someone higher up just finally broke down and got them Air conditioning last Wednesday the first time...lol. I don't think the recent A/C introduction and the hard Gel CA glue just 'convergent engineering? lol. No more giant B-29 bomber fans.

            Got to try this.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.
