Hi out there, I have I think an old Darnell type 21 hull. And need some advice of how to overcome a problem. The front dive planes are the type that fold in on themselves. They work from two servos build into a little brass frame at the front of the hull. Now my problem is this. First will waterproofing these servos by sealing and filling with olive oil work? And second and the hardest part is how do I get the servo cables (two of them) inside my WTC. All would it just be best to fix the planes in one position and leave them be.

You can purchase waterproof servos, although you pay a premium for them. Hitec do range that’s well regarded, other companies offer them although some are not as watertight as claimed.
To get a connection into your cylinder, one method is to snip off the servo plug and solder or crimp on some ring connector, do the same for the receiver side in the cylinder. Use three small brass bolts drilled and tapped through you end cap to get you three wire feed external then attach the connectors each side. -

Usually modellers will place the servo in a watertight compartment and run a shaft through with seals or bellows. In the case of an old Darnell model , it would originally have been a fibreglass box with a rubber gasket and a clear plastic lid screwed down with umpteen nuts and bolts to hold it down. Many have been updated with a cylinder design, but some still favour this older style of construction, I think they must be masochistic.Comment

Use mineral oil. Not olive oil like I did all those years ago. My latest waterproofing experiments are documented on my channel. Seal the exterior seams. Put an o-ring under the servo horn. Drill a hole in the top (or bottom). Submerge in mineral oil. Use a vacuum pump to suck all the air out. Clean it off. Seal up the hole.
The cheap mini servos I used worked perfectly. The full-sized ones worked, but were insanely slow to move.Comment
