    Batteries...and leaks

Got a nice new 5000 m-A-h NiMH battery with a leak. some rust showing? Battery toast, or let dry out?

    Thanks

Trash it or get a refund. Don’t screw around with batteries.

Not handy. There is a 3/32" hole between cells. Rusty water came dripping out. I can reseal it in a water tight shrink tube, but don't trust rusty contacts. I had it on the charger before I saw the water condensation - it is hard to see when installed in the sub - the charger could only get to 14V, not the 15V or so when new.

A few of the cells have rust on the ends.

Dont screw around with faulty batteries. You could have a fire too, either in the shop charging or burn up your boat discharging.
Or your boat simply loosing power and you have now a 'Thresher' to swim for. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.
Return it and get a refund or exchnage. Crappy battery.

Didn’t Mike Dory have a boat explode in his garage years ago?

Mike's explosion was from a sealed lead-acid battery. Was charging it in the boat and had a very bad H2 build-up inside the watertight box, in hull. Impressive destruction!!!
