    Snort maintenance

    Hello,

I would like to know how to keep my snort float free moving. Would I be right to put silicon grease on the main induction tube? Would this need to be done after every sailing?

    Regards

By 'free moving' I have to assume you are talking about the sliding action of the float with the induction tube running through it. Do not grease or oil this as that will gum up in cold water. Use no grease or oil on the induction tube or the brass tube that makes up the bore of the float itself. If there is binding in the mechanism when it's installed, then you likely the float is making contact with the inside of the sail somewhere.

If there is binding off-model then run a 1/8" round-file (most big box stores carry them -- used by chain-saw users) through the floats brass tube bore A few strokes, then wad up a piece of scotch-bright pad and push it through the bore a few times.

Ah .... forum decorum forbids further comment. By the way, my assistant is simply outraged by that uncalled for, unsolicited, mean-spirited comment. Hurrumph!

Speaking of nail polish, I knew a wood carver who specialized in fish. He would put a spot of white nail polish on a finger to use for color correction when catching fish for "Research".
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Did he also wear a pink tutu to compensate for water density?

This is all very helpful for the snort maintenance. Does it matter what colour nail polish? I only got green.
