Light-weight
These are only 1.5 grams of weight and are used on the lightest aircraft(Mosquito) but you may be able to upscale it's size.It looks like a relatively simple design, maybe use a larger motor and mold a larger sliding shaft and carriage. You may be able to use the same chipboard. It is a very cool design. This may be a job for a super bubblehead! That linear servo converter is the EMS/Jomar conversion kit, designed to fit the Futaba S148 full size servo.
It's a great gadget, but it's only of use for bigger boats that can accept full size servos.
If you want a very small linear servo, look at these by Spektrum $19.99-

with no potentiometer that set up will never match stick position. You would definately be flying by the seat of your pants, not to mention the systems posible reaction time.Comment

I agree with Kevin on both points. Looks like the push-rods are only good for 'bang-bang' throws. Just what are the specifics on that little vehicle anyway?
Looks like an old mobile evasion device innards.

He could be using encoders instead of pots for feedback. Or a hall sensor/magnetic induced feedback.Comment
