    What boat am I?

David was talking about sweeping up the shop with a broom the other day..

Well here is a boat with a broom sticking out of it..

What boat am I and where am I? Said this rather large piece of submarine history. This one is probably too easy..

USS Drum, Mobile, AL.? I do not think they put a broom on their sub, probably USS Pampanito.

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

not sure what sub but the broom means they had a clean sweep of sea trials and are ready to come out of the yards. The broom is usually flown on the way back in to port.

Maybe today. But in the time of these boats (pre-GUPPY converesions) it means return from a successful War Patrol.

The DRUM in Mobile is a rust bucket. They ought to be ashamed. The rear torpedo area is almost completely rusted away.Click image for larger version

Rode hard, put away wet. The Navy leases these on condition of reasonable preservation and respectful presentation. What the hell happened here?????!!!!!!

What I was looking at was the round antenna, RDF. It is mounted upside down. The Drum, albeit a rust bucket, has the same setup as the one pictured.

What? You're a resourceful guy. Get a .003 inch drill bit, make 800 holes real close together, shave a bit off the cat (and dye it a straw brown), then CA each one in individually. If you do not have a cat, while the wife is sleeping, just snip the ends of her hair, you may have to ream the holes a tad to adjust for the thicker hair size, but that should work. What's the problem with that? jk
