    New graupner u boat

Graupner is coming out with a new submarine. It appears to be a dynamic diver though.

Its old news & they will have a static diver later this year. KY Model has been testing one with Engel piston tanks & according to my sources, they were planning to develop their own system for Graupner. They offer both versions on their Chinese site but not sure if its been shipped to anyone yet.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the update, Chuck.

(stop scaring my family with photos of portible power tools ... Ellie was looking over my shoulder this morning. I have the knot-on-the-head to prove it!).

I saw a prototype example today and it looked impressive except for the very oversized weld lines! None of the flood or drain holes were open on the display model and the shop said it had no gear inside. The price was HK$ 14,000 or about US$ 2,200 fo a ready to run sub.

                  Myron,

Was the example you mentioned above a proper submarine?

Was that at one of those small shops on Kwong Wa Street just down from Tim Ho Wan? Next time I'm in town, I need to drop in again sometime for his excellent fried bbq buns.

                      David and Herrmill,

Yes, it was a proper Sub, very highly detailed Type VIIC Atlantic Version with AA Guns, Snorkel and life raft canisters on the bow. What it didn't have is the bull nose, probably due to it being a fibre glass molding. The flood and drain holes indentations were there but on the show model were not opened up. For those of you that haven't seen the Graupner models, you are really missing something! The finish and detail work is amazing. They have a HMS Hood model in the shop that even has 2 steam launches along with all the other motorized shore boats, Herrmill, yes it was one of the small shop off Kwong Wa Street. What are you doing in Haungzhou?

                      Regards,

                      Myron

                        Howdy Myron,

Pretending to work at least some of the time. If you ever happen to make it up this way, do give me a shout.

                        Chuck

Be patient, my friend. As mentioned in the above referenced threads, I met with KY Model's owner a few years ago when he first broached the news that Graupner had him working on subs to add to their Premium line of ARTR models & had three under development. I don't know anymore than that but given Graupner's history when it comes to past releases, I'd wouldn't be surprised if at least two would be German with the other American or British.
