Sad to announce death of Thorbrandr (Chris Cox)

Hello to all the RC sub enthusiasts here.

I have sad news to deliver. Thorbrandr (Chris Cox) was a member of this forum since about 2019, and he absolutely loved this hobby. He built several RC subs and was working on one more when he had a hemorrhagic stroke on Dec. 14, 2025. It was fairly mild and we caught it early. His prognosis was excellent, and over the following six weeks, he made great progress. It looked like he would have a near 100% recovery, and he was several days from being discharged home when he had a second brain bleed. I am sorry to say that he died from the second one on January 26, 2026. Please know that he enjoyed these forums and your company very much.

As referenced by my forum name, I was Thorbrandr's wife (Carter Cox in real life). I have all of Chris' RC subs, both the completed ones and the work in progress. I know Chris would have wanted the subs to go to folks who would appreciate them. If anyone is interested in them, I would be happy to discuss specifics about each one, and a fair valuation for completed models, parts, shipping, etc. Please note that I am NOT an expert in the technical specs like Chris was, but I'll do my best to give photos and dimensions if anyone is interested. My main concern is that the subs continue to be used and enjoyed.

    Yours,
    Carter Cox

Sorry to hear about Chris's passing. Hope you find some good homes for his boats to be enjoyed going forward.

I am sorry to hear this. I wrote in my will and Living trust specific values in dollar costs to my survivors should a few of the same people take advantage of their grief and vulnerability and Naivety not haphazardly give away the model boats submarines cheaply. Some individuals get models free from widows that say will we are preserving their memory when they are really just getting free models added to their 'fleet'?

Its is disturbing so just be aware.

So sorry to hear about your loss!

Regarding the disposition of your husband's submarines, I respectfully suggest you reach out to Bob Martin, the RC Sub Guy and owner of this forum, to see if he can help you ensure you get fair valuation for your husband's work.

Some boats command higher value than others, either due to kit rarity, build quality, or both. As much as many of us would like to get great boats for low cost, there is definitely a need here to ensure that what he built goes to good homes for fair prices.

Im sorry for your loss. I have no doubt that there will be people here that will step up and help you. I hope everything works out.
Of the approximately 40,000 men who served on U-boats in WWII, it is estimated that around 28,000 to 30,000 lost their lives.

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Very sorry for your loss and thank-you for letting this group know, that's very kind.
I second the recommendation to engage Bob Martin. I've bought, sold, and traded with Bob and that always results in a fair and friendly deal. Also, no one has better access or connections into the model submarine community than Bob. He knows people all over the world and he knows the market.
