While the boat I was stationed on, the USS DANIEL WEBSTER was being worked up for the next patrol, the HMS DREADNAUGHT tied up next to our tender, all this on the delightful little island of Guam (stinky armpit of the Pacific). Me and a few fellow sailor's, with a little time off duty, got to tour the UK boat. It has/had an engine-room outfitted with our S5W steam plant. A plaque over the bulkhead door leading into the engine room read something like, "Now Entering American Territory", or something like that... that was over a half-century ago, memory ain't what it used to be.

A different navy than ours: we had steel-toed shoes (sneakers when no one was looking), Her Majesties swabbies wore open toe sandals and drank rum on board! Our tubes had interlocks up the kazoo and enough non-sense to them to make Rube Goldberg proud; the Britt torpedo tubes were the definition of simplicity, and reliability.

Two different worlds being pushed around by a like propulsion plant. Neat!

Still doing that today! Ever heard of "The Common Engine Room" and "The Common Missile Compartment"? Common between US/UK, and maybe someday AUS, too! :)

Doon OK, ol' friend! Everyday gains a bit more mobility and a new frustration to overcome! Discovered I don't have the hand strength required to open a VEX xmitter case to put batteries in last evening! I will prevail today, as I have many tools, though I do regret never snagging a deckplate screwdriver as a personal tool. Damn!!!!! I could open some stuff with that!!!! Celebrating 52 years of reporting for active duty at Great Lakes today!
