Get on that waterline. And, for God's sake, back off on the streaking! Otherwise: adequate.

Bob - thank you! I’ll go back when on my laptop and take out some of the duplicate posts. Thanks for the explanation…I thought it may have been something to do with my browser.
Dave - adequate is high praise from you! Especially considering this is my very first attempt at weathering. I can try and tone back the streaking….either repaint the base and start over, or apply a coat of the base over the offending streaking with a light airbrush pass…? I assume you’re talking about the Burnt Sienna rust stains? Or the salt deposits/streaks on the saddle tanks? Probably both….? Leads to another question (once I get the streaking and waterline under control - and decals affixed) - do you recommend a final matte clear over the entire model? Thank you Sensai (bowing respectfully).Last edited by mike27283; 11-25-2025, 06:27 PM.Comment

Both the rust and runoff streaking are offensive and off-putting... The fix is simple: as you suggest. Just take the base color, dope it with some clear to make it a bit semi-opaque, and lay down vertical passes wiBob - thank you! th the air-brush -- just enough to suggest (NOT BLAST IT IN THE FACE OF YOUR AUDIENCE) the presence of rust and runoff.
Less is more.
And mung-up that waterline... chicken??
Once all weathering and markings are on hit it with a very flat clear-coat throughout -- everything will fall into place and you'll have a nice piece of work on your hands.
... you're welcome!

Hai! Arigato gozaimasu Sensei!
I shall self flagulate (not flagellate) while applying your learned wisdom.
But honestly - thank you for the advice and direction Dave. Obviously it’s a work in progress and not yet complete. Great platform for working through these techniques and challenges for this phase of the build. Of everything this weathering/finishing phase seems the most difficult. I’ll make some adjustments and keep pressing ahead - it’s a great opportunity to learn and refine these techniques to get the look I’m going for - having this all under my belt will pay off later for other builds.Comment

All bluster and bull-**** aside, Mike. I'm just as much a student of weathering as you are. So many tools, techniques and mediums available to us, it makes this portion of the Craft a very personal and subjective activity. I learn as much as you, following the work of others. The learning never stops.Hai! Arigato gozaimasu Sensei!

You do good work. And... you have that magic spark of high-involvement; this stuff is not a fun hobby so much as it's a process you enjoy and pursue with obvious glee. You do nothing half-ass; you apply yourself no matter the task. (One reason I put up with insufferable, straight-as-an-arrow, Boy-Scouts, such as yourself).Who is John Galt?Comment
