You just need a BLHELI32 ESC. That will run a brushless motor down to the point where you count the revs. Sensorless brushless esc's have come on a long way in the last few years. The very best smooth running is achieved with motors with as many poles as you can fit in the footprint, but 14 poles is sufficient for good smooth running.

I'm a big fan of Engel components.
Two brushless ESCs from Amazon about $25 each running at 6v with 15,000 mAh nimh battery. I later switch the ESCs to two Mtroniks G2 Hydra50 ESCs. Way, way overkill as thats 100amp together. I did it because I said what the hell. I may bump to 20,000 mAh of power, again why not.

This was the ESC I bought from amazon. Bidirectional 40A Brushless ESC

        Good choice on your ESC!

I have used it on all my brushless motor propulsion systems on my WTC!
