    SM U-1 1:350 display model

I guess those who follow my projects know that I did a 1,80 m long U-1 a while ago. I'm a big fan of this first submarine of the Imperial German Navy....The big boat was based on semic-scale CAD model that I did back in the days, and I've never been pleased with its accuracy, especially as my CAD skills got better and better. So a year ago, right around Christmas, I did a new CAD model that is much more accurate. A few weeks ago my I had no job for my resin printer but didn't want to clean it, so I decided to give it a little job, and little it is....in 1:350 the boat is really small but turned out O.K.. I printed the hull, conning tower and snorkels in one go. The Ruder and dive planes were printed separartly and glued into place. Next are the prop shafts and the props...when I have a steady hand day. side project to my side project "Molch".

    Nice job Andreas,

Those resin printers sure do great job on the smaller projects!

Indeed....but sooner or later I'll make masters for a 1:48 scale version ... would be about 88 cm long. Nice size for a WTC.

Prop shafts and props are on, the mast on the forward ventilation mast has been fabricated from pulled styrene as has been the rigging. The little deck between the periscopes with the live belts is in place and the push rods to the rudder as well. Had a steady hand yesterday.....next will be primer and the some paint. Gonna be fun.

Hi! Question: what is the fin-like structure in front of the upper rudder?
          Schönen ersten Advent!

I think it was for buoyancy. The whole structure was filled with cork.

I think so too, just like the HMS K class sub later type, with a buoyancy cable structure at the bow:

Painted and slightly weathered.....I guess I'll paint the stand old bronze, add a name plate, and then it'll be done....
